Castaic Lake Report 10-26-2025

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

Decent to great Bass fishing depending on where, when and what technique anglers utilized. For me, the combination of a great topwater bite in certain coves between 10 am and 5 pm plus an abundance of easily netted live Shad resulted in excellent fishing all three weekdays for bass averaging two pounds, with many three to find pounders mixed in. Smaller topwater lures like the Megabass Karashi and custom painted Bait Merchant Riser Baits cast to spot boils and flurries resulted in my biggest fish. The larger lures that anglers are using for Stripers don’t seem to be very effective on the Bass.

In the middle of the day, small jigging spoons or KastMasters fished near the bottom in twenty to thirty feet of water are producing lots of numbers including Striped Bass. Fish these in the middle of the coves instead of near the shoreline to intercept the schools of Bass as they come in from deeper water. Timing of fishing areas is very important. Coves with clear water tend to produce surface action early while coves that have heavy algae or sawdust are better during the day when the wind cleans them up, exposing the hiding baitfish schools. I have four coves that I alternate between, depending on conditions. Live Shad fishing is as good as it gets right now as the Shad-drunk Bass are very lazy and won’t chase most artificial offerings.

Striped Bass:

A little slower than last week as far as boils. The huge main-lake schools of Summer Stripers have moved into the the bigger coves. At times they are pushing baitfish up against the shore making for some exciting fishing. They are being caught in the same places as the other Bass on the same lures and jigging spoons.
