Not much changed at Castaic this week, and that’s the honest report. Blustery, rainy weather, a falling lake, and an algae warning gave anglers little reason for confidence. Guide Jim Taibi of 661Fishing.com says the fish are spread out as they move into the fall and winter transition, so it’s a patience-and-adjustment stretch. Here’s the full November 1st report and what to expect next.

🎣 Largemouth, Smallmouth & Striped Bass
Slow overall, with fish scattered. Anglers who got out found the fishing slow. Bass are spread out as they begin moving toward the main lake for the fall and winter transition, which makes them harder to find than they were during the concentrated shad bite earlier this fall.
The old standby is still the answer. The dropshot rig with darker colored baits accounted for most of the action this week. In stained, algae-affected water, dark profiles stand out better than light ones. If you’re going out, make it your primary setup.
What’s next: a vertical jigging spoon bite. As fish move deeper on their way to the main lake, Jim expects a vertical jigging spoon bite to develop in the coming days. It’s too early to call it a pattern, but it’s the next thing to watch. Start getting spoons in your box now.
Stripers are spread out too. They’re cruising the deeper shoreline edges as the remaining baitfish leave the shallows. Jim is hopeful that trolling and chunk bait will come into play once the baitfish settle a little deeper. That bite hasn’t materialized yet.
