• Don't crimp to the edge. Always leave 1/16" to 1/8" from both ends of the sleeve to prevent stress fractures and connection failure.
• Match the sleeve to the line. These aluminum sleeves are designed for mono and fluorocarbon only — using them on braid will result in slippage. Use braid-specific sleeves for braid connections.
• Use the chafe guards every time. The anti-chafing springs aren't optional — they're what gives you that extra 12% break strength. Thread them on before crimping.

Can I use these crimps with braided line?
No — the aluminum sleeves in this kit are designed for monofilament and fluorocarbon only. Braid requires a different sleeve type. Use the included braid tube chafe guards for chafe protection on braid sections, but crimp only mono or fluoro.

What's the correct technique for crimping?
Use a firm, even squeeze — not a death grip. Avoid crimping all the way to the edge of the sleeve; leave 1/16" to 1/8" on both ends. This prevents stress fractures and keeps the connection at full strength.

These 2 areas were the most essential problems to solve with the design strategy of our crimping pliers. The reduced surface area at the business end, in conjunction with the short distance to the pliers fulcrum (pivot point where pliers rotate), has allowed us to maximize torque and deform crimps. The Izorline Heavy Duty Crimper is ideal for crimping Aluminum mono crimps. It also features a side-cutter for cutting mono and wire. There are 4 positions for all of your crimping needs.  We like this crimper because it's well made and has the necessary slots for most crimps up 400lb line.

Slot 1 = .1mm to .5mm (10-25lb mono or fluorocarbon)

• Match your crimp sleeve to your leader: The HYDRA-X delivers the force — but the crimp is only as good as the sleeve. Use the correct sleeve size for your leader diameter and material. Undersized sleeves won't hold; oversized sleeves won't seat properly. When in doubt, test your crimp with a hard pull before it goes in the water.
• Two-pass crimping on heavy sleeves: On very heavy mono or fluoro (200# and up), rotate the sleeve 90 degrees and crimp a second time for maximum holding strength. The HYDRA-X has the leverage to do this cleanly without distorting the sleeve.
