Castaic Lake Report 10-19-2025

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

Excellent fishing was had by most anglers this week despite stormy conditions and rain to start the week. The Stripers and bigger Bass have finally shown up in the main coves like Hawks Nest and Old SS. Reduced water temps and small schools of Stripers have pushed massive schools of baitfish in, and the small Bass out. Bass averaging three to five pounds were common. Bigger lures like Lucky Craft Sammy’s and Gunfish are producing some big bites throughout the day on all three Bass species. It isn’t necessary to use the smaller lures popular during the Summer, the larger baits will cast farther and cover water more effectively. In the middle of the day, jigging spoons fished near the bottom in twenty to thirty feet of water is the way to go. Fish these in the middle of the coves instead of near the shoreline and intercept the schools of Bass as they come in from deeper water where there aren’t huge schools of baitfish.

Striped Bass:

The huge main-lake schools of Stripers have broken up into smaller groups as they enter the bigger coves. They are pushing baitfish up against the shore making for some exciting fishing. As they are in shallower water now, they are more likely to hit without boiling as they see everything that hits the water. They are being caught in the same places as the other Bass on the same lures and jigging spoons. Lucky Craft Sammy and Gunfish 100’s work as well or better than any other lures due to their casting distance and bigger profile.
