Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

The excellent Fall fishing continued this week for Bass averaging two to three pounds, as the surface bite is providing lots of action well into the morning. The Bait Merchant Riser Bait 007 along with Lucky Craft Sammy’s, and C3 Baits Flukenstein’s continue to be the mainstay lures for this lake. Dropshot rigs and light Carolina rigs fished on main-lake rocky stretches and walls in 15-20β€² of water are good places to go deep after the surface bite wanes. Just about any of the finesse baits in the C3 or Bait Merchant lineup will get you bites, and there has been an uptick in size of fish as well with many two to three pound fish keeping the nets wet. There has been some bigger Bass breaking hearts as they go deep into the bushes and branches in the backs of coves.

Striped Bass:

Pretty much the same as last week as the steady surface action continues on schools of six pound average fish. The bite has been strong most of the day, with some of the best action being late morning thru mid-day in the Ski Arm. The hotspots are between the West ramp and the island, the jet ski buoy line and around Center Point towards the main ramp and Fish Arm. Espetit 95’s in white or White Flash and Lucky Craft Sammy 100’s in Ghost Minnow and Pearl Threadfin patterns are as good as any. I fish mine on a 7β€² medium action spinning rod with a 4000 size reel and 12# monofilament line. This outfit will get you a long cast and eliminates the chance of backlash during the high adrenaline casting into the boils. The mono line will eliminate connection knots and keep your lure on the surface, keeping snagging to a minimum and letting your lure perform properly. Braid is ok but it tends to rip the hooks out on the strike while the mono provides lots of stretch, insuring a good hookup.
