Castaic Lake Fishing Report 09/28/25
Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
Excellent fishing overall for Bass averaging one to three pounds, with a few bigger models in the mix. There was a nine pound plus Largemouth caught by John Petroski of C3 Baits fame on one of his finesse baits, the Shimmy in Neptune Shad, the staple finesse plastic of Castaic Lake. Surface action has been going well into the morning as the days have been cooler and sometimes cloudy. Bait Merchant Riser Baits, Megabass Karashiβs, smaller Lucky Craft Gunfish and Sammyβs, and C3 Baits Flukensteinβs continue to produce. The heavy algae blooms from last week are pretty much gone except for the backs of some coves. Dropshot rigs and light-line Carolina rigs fished on main-lake points and rocky areas are becoming effective again just about anytime of day. Bait Merchant Calligators and Prototype worms are getting bit regulary along with just about any of the finesse baits in the C3 lineup.
Striped Bass:
Steady surface action on six pound average fish are keeping boil chasers busy during the day, with some of the best action being late morning thru mid-day in the Ski Arm. The hotspots have been between the West ramp and the island, the jet ski buoy line and around Center Point towards the main ramp and Fish Arm. Espetit 95βs in the White Flash pattern and Lucky Craft Gunfish and Sammy 100βs in Ghost Minnow and Pearl Threadfin patterns are a good choice as they are tail-weighted, providing extra casting distance.Β
