The SPRO Phat Flies were designed to take Float and Fly fishing to a new level. We love these jigs for bass, crappie, panfish, and trout. With 4 or 6 pound line, you can fish it on a bobber, with a split shot, or fly lined. It works great on a straight wind or with a lift and drop of the rod.
Usually raising the rod tip quickly 12-24 inches and then letting the jig fall back down repeatedly works great. There is no wrong way to use it, experiment and we think you'll see how effective it is.

We like to fish this size on 8-12lb monofilament line with a soft tip rod. Don't work it too fast, sometimes a slow methodical walk the dog action will get them to bite much better than a faster retrieve. If the fish are super fired up, speed it up and then pause it for just a split second.
There is no wrong way, just make sure you try different methods of retrieve if they aren't hitting it and you know they are feeding on the surface. Sometimes going smaller to the Heddon Zara Puppy will get finicky fish to bite. Also try the medium sized Heddon Zara Spook for an average sized bait.
