A recent stocking has been great for shore anglers as the fish stay near the shore for a week or two. There are still a few fish roaming the East shoreline of the Ski Arm from the previous stocking that can be caught in water as shallow as two feet. They will hit just about any trout lure as well as dropshot finesse plastics while Bass fishing.

The most productive depth zone has been ten to twenty five feet on main lake points and shoals, and bluff walls. C3 Baits Shimmy’s in the Neptune Shad pattern fished on the Carolina rig continue to dominate the action overall. Dropshot rigs are accounting for a few bites also with three to four inch finesse worms doing the most damage. The water is pretty clear so lean towards colors like Neptune Shad and Watermelon Magic for the C3 Baits and Margarita Mutilator and Aaron’s Magic for RoboWorms.

A recent stocking of some bigger Trout has lots of anglers fishing the shoreline with the usual dough baits and nightcrawlers. Lure chuckers are connecting with Rooster Tails, Thomas Bouyants and Super Dupers. The fish are getting hammered with the good weather and the bite won’t last long.

Some days are better than others for no obvious reason, with the mornings definitly seeing the majority of the action. A few bites were had on medium sized crankbaits in shad color hues and the occasional fish on an umbrella rig fished low and slow. Still awaiting another stocking. There have been a few incidental catches by Bass fishermen on finesse baits, mostly on the dropshot rig.

C3 Baits Slim Pro’s on the dropshot and Shimmy’s in the Neptune Shad pattern fished on the Carolina rig are still getting the majority of the bites. Both arms of the lake have been good but the anglers that are looking for fish with sonar before casting a line are doing better. There are schools of bigger fish down at forty feet but they are hard to entice at this time.

The bite remains pretty tough on most days, however the recent string of warm weather and minimal wind has produced a decent bite on mostly smaller fish in two to twenty feet of water. A big load of Trout from one to eight pounds (and maybe bigger) are keeping anglers busy in the West Ramp area. Bait anglers are getting bit on Berkley Mice Tails, Gulp pinched crawlers on a dropshot rig and inflated nightcrawlers on a Carolina rig. Two to four pound leaders are best.

A decent week of fishing as the bite on one to four pound fish contiunues in the 15 to 25 foot range, with finesse plastics accounting for the bulk of the action. Wacky rigged stick baits like the C3 Baits Slim Pro or 4-1/2″ straight-tailed RoboWorms on the dropshot were the most consistent baits and techniques.

Surface boils are in the rear view mirror on what was an exciting Summer and Fall bite. There are still some fish biting for anglers utilizing reaction baits like umbrella rigs, KastMasters and Keitech Fat Swing Impact paddletails on jigheads. Trolling Yak flies on lead core is slowly gaining speed as the schools go deeper and get into the bigger coves.
