Spro Rat 25 Wakebait

The Spro Rat 25 Wakebait is built for the topwater blowup every angler is chasing. Two years in development and an ICAST Best of Show winner in the hard lure category, the Rat triggers the instinctive, reaction strike that big predator fish can't pass up.

Why Big Fish Can't Leave It Alone

Fussy fish often ignore a bait that moves too clean or too predictably. The Rat's wake and kick mimic something struggling on the surface, which flips the switch from a fish watching to a fish striking. When they're actively feeding, this is the real meal deal they're looking for.

An Updated Tail for More Action

The Rat 25 carries the newer 2022 tail design, refined to kick harder and hold its action at a slower retrieve speed than earlier versions. Paired with sticky-sharp Gamakatsu hooks standard on every bait, it converts more of those explosive strikes into fish in the boat.

One Bait, Five Retrieves

The Rat isn't a one-trick bait. Bulge it along just under the surface, v-wake it on a steady retrieve, walk the dog with sharp twitches, or pop it for a more aggressive commotion, covering several presentations with one lure in the box.

The Right Pick If...

You're targeting largemouth, smallmouth, or other topwater predators and want a floating bait that draws explosive surface strikes without going oversized. At 2.5 inches and 5/16 ounce, the Rat 25 is the smallest in the lineup, ideal when forage is smaller or fish are keying in on subtler surface prey.

Best Techniques and Conditions

Works best in low light, early morning, and evening when fish move shallow to feed on top, as well as any time smaller baitfish are active near the surface. Calm water shows off the wake action most clearly, though a light chop can also draw reaction strikes.

Tackle Express Tips

• Size up to the Spro Rat 30, Spro Rat 40, or Spro Rat 50 when forage or target fish run larger.
• Match low light conditions, like early morning or dusk, with a natural pattern like Grey Ghost or Brown, and save brighter patterns like White for overcast or stained water.
• Slow your retrieve down in calm, clear conditions so the smaller profile and tail action stay believable rather than overpowering.
