1. Plan the placement first. Keep the rattle clear of the hook path and leave flexible tails and appendages free to move.
2. Prepare the opening gently. DOA suggests using an existing cavity or making a hole with a toothpick or small brass tube. Avoid forcing the glass into a tight opening.
3. Check the finished rig in the water. Make a short retrieve beside you to check that the bait still tracks as intended. Compare it with an unmodified bait before committing to the change.
