The favorite tactic for trout fishermen in the Sierra Nevada Mountains is fishing Sierra Slammers Mini Jig. This style of lure not only catches a ton of fish but also seems to catch a disproportionate number of trophy trout as well.

Hookup Baits Small Jig gives a whole new meaning to a "Mini Jig", these have an action like now other.  With a spiral action on the fall and an erratic dart action with a pop of the rod tip. Great to fool any stocker trout and subtle enough to entices the big natural browns.

There are many ways to fish the hookup bait but casting it out and letting it fall on a tight line will pendulum it down in an arc.  This can be very effective since it allows the bait to swim as it falls.  This is effective when fish are suspended in the column and not on the top or bottom.

If fish are on the bottom, we like to let it sink to the bottom and pop it off the bottom and then allowing it to sink back down.  Continue this retrieve all the way back to the boat or shore.

If they are in the upper part of the column, cast and start retrieving soon after the lure hits the surface.  Most of the time a slow and steady retrieve works best but you can also burn it on the surface for very active surface feeding fish.

These Lead Masters Mini Tube Jig's are excellent for fishing for crappie, trout, bass, bluegill, perch and many other panfish.  The colors of these mini jigs may vary a little depending on the batch since they are all hand poured lures.  Simply tie them on directly, cast, and slowly turn the handle.  We find it works better if you don't twitch it.  They can also be used with a water filled bobber to get better casting distance.

The way we fish them is either on a bobber with a 2-3' leader or tie it directly to the line.  2-4lb line is key and we like to use fluorocarbon like Seaguar Invisx or Berkley Vanish.  Simply cast it out, let it sink for a few seconds, and retrieve it very very slowly. You can set the hook or wind the reel faster when you get bit.  A reel in the 500, 750, or 1000 size would be best and a light action trout rod for cast-ability and action when fighting the fish.
