Owner Aki Twist Bait Hooks are the standard when it comes to fishing squid in Southern California.  The long shank, offset point, and heavy gauge wire make this a big game hook that stands up to tough conditions.  For a full size squid not cut, we follow Brandon Haywards recommendation of a 7/0.  

Thread the hook through the squid 2-3 times and put it on a dropper loop or glow slider.  We like to put the hook 3 feet from the weight on the dropper loop.   For the glow sinker, let it slide all the way down to the hook.

Lead Torpedo Weights are used on almost any saltwater fishing trip in Southern California.  These are the staple weight used to get your bait to the bottom for fish like halibut, rock fish, white sea bass, calico bass, white fish, and many other species. Owner Mutu Circle Hooks are made using a 2X strong shank. They are rated for use up to 50lb test line. This is the preferred hook for tuna fishing in Southern California on small grade fish, say up to 60 pounds.  

This medium diameter hook doesn't damage the bait as much as a thicker hook, this allows the bait to swim more freely.  Sometimes reducing the hook size will produce more bites and this hook is still very strong even in the smaller sizes.  

Just remember to not swing the rod when you get bit, simply turn the handle on the reel until it comes tight and the line starts ripping off the reel.  

Lead Masters Glow Egg Sinkers have one of the best glow paints we've seen.  They absorb the light quickly and stay lit for a long time.  The smooth surface inside the sinker won't damage your line.

Lead Egg Sinkers can be used in so many ways while fishing it's hard to say how the best way to use them is.  For live bait fishing offshore in Southern California, we use them most often to get our bait deeper in the column.  Often times the bird will eat your bait and just a little weight can get it out of reach of the birds and in the mouth of the fish.
