I really like this reel for vertical fishing since it does have that taller spool. For the fishing I do, I don't really use this reel for casting but it does cast well. The MC Cast control knob uses magnets to slow the spool down and has 5 settings. Number 1 gives you the lest control and number 5 the most. Slowing the spool down under the cast helps prevents back lashes (birds nest) will actually let you cast farther, especially if you're new to casting a conventional reel.

The Avet MXJ G2 Lever Drag Fishing Reels are a powerhouse of reels, especially for their size. It boasts 20lbs of drag at full which is enough for at least a 50lb tuna with micro braided line. For a fishing reel this small, that is very impressive. With 400 yards of 50 pound regular 4 carrier braid, you have the capacity and torque of a much larger reel.
The solid aluminum frame won't flex under a load and the superior carbon fiber drag washers will stand up to a long fight. We like this reel for the light weight, extreme durability, nice line capacity, and nice free-spool. As with any of the Avet reels, you get bang for your buck and a reel that will last you for many years to come.

The advanced Carbonite Dual Force Drag system offers up to 46 pounds of smooth, controlled drag, while the reel’s design guarantees reliable operation under extreme pressure. Every aspect of the Tesoro LDJ is built to excel in tough saltwater environments.
The all-new Penn Fathom II 2-Speed Lever Drag Reels take a class leading reel and raise the bar even more. New models, sizing, features and optimized billfish models round out the assortment to give a model for every application. Integrating the palm side plate and frame allows the Fathom II Lever Drag reels to be more compact in hand, reduce weight, and increase strength, while the Pull-to-Turn preset knobs allows the angler to truly set it, and forget it. All new cosmetics also bring eye appeal to these reels, and will truly match any rod or boat.
Attention: Penn changed the handle on the 2-Speed Fathoms from the power handle to a football handle. They also removed the ported sections of the handle to make it stronger. We have mixed stock due to this, some have the power handle and some have the football handle. The pictures have been linked to show you which handle you will be getting when you click on the variant.
