Avet HX Reels

The Avet HX Raptor 2-Speed Lever Drag Reel is the standard-width choice in the HX family, balancing a substantial frame with the control of a 2-speed drivetrain. Its dual Avedrag carbon fiber system delivers up to 40 lb of drag at strike and 50 lb at full, while the 5.4:1 high gear and 1.9:1 low gear give you speed for line recovery and torque for the heavy part of the fight.

Built around a true one-piece 6061-T6 marine-grade aluminum frame, the HX Raptor is made for anglers targeting larger tuna, yellowtail, and other hard-pulling offshore gamefish. The lineup includes MC and no-MC configurations, right-hand color options, and a left-hand Silver MC model. Made in the USA.

When a Smaller Reel Leaves You Short

Compact reels are comfortable, but bigger offshore fish can expose their limits quickly. The HX Raptor gives you a wider standard HX platform, a higher listed drag range, and an 80 lb braid capacity of up to 500 yards in the current product specifications. It is a strong middle ground when you need serious stopping power without moving to the wider HXW platform.

Fast Recovery, Heavy-Gear Leverage

Use high gear when a fish runs toward the boat or you need to remove slack quickly. Shift to low gear when the fish sounds, current loads the line, or you need steady pressure near structure. The lever drag and strike preset keep pressure changes deliberate and repeatable, while MC models add five magnetic settings for spool control before the hookset.

The Right Pick If...

• You want a standard-width HX platform with up to 40 lb at strike and 50 lb at full.
• You fish for larger tuna, yellowtail, and other demanding offshore gamefish.
• You need the listed 80 lb braid capacity of up to 500 yards.
• You want to choose between MC and no-MC configurations.
• You need right-hand color choices or the listed left-hand Silver MC model.

Where It Fits in the Avet Lineup

The HX Raptor is the standard-width option in the HX family. For a more compact mid-frame reel, compare the Avet LX Raptor. For a narrower HXJ setup, see the Avet HXJ Raptor. If you need the wider spool and larger HXW platform, compare the Avet HXW Raptor.

Best Techniques and Conditions

• Offshore live bait: Use high gear to recover line during a fast run, then shift low when the fish digs deep.
• Heavy jigging: High gear helps with lure work and line pickup, while low gear gives you leverage after the hookset.
• Structure-oriented saltwater fishing: The 40/50 lb listed drag range helps you maintain pressure when a fish turns toward cover.
• Long-range and offshore trips: The standard-width frame and 80 lb/500 yd capacity make the HX a practical step up from smaller Raptor platforms.

Choose the HX Raptor when you need serious drag power, a useful line-capacity target, and two-speed control in a standard-width offshore reel.

Tackle Express Tips

• Use high gear while a fish is moving toward the boat, then shift to low gear when you need steady torque.
• Choose No-MC for a simpler configuration or MC when you want five magnetic spool-control settings.
• Set the strike position before the trip and keep lever movement smooth so pressure changes stay predictable.

FAQ

What is the difference between the HX and HXJ Raptor?
The HX is the standard-width platform with the listed 80 lb/500 yd capacity. The HXJ uses a narrower platform and is listed separately for anglers who prefer that profile. Compare the HXJ Raptor before choosing.

Does the HX Raptor come in left-hand retrieve?
Yes. The listed lineup includes a left-hand Silver MC model, along with right-hand Silver, Blue, Black, Gold, and Gunmetal choices.

How do I compare Avet reel sizes?

Wide-Profile Two-Speed Power for Trophy Offshore Fish

The Avet HX 5/2 Raptor Plus MC 2 Speed Reel is built for anglers who want wide-profile capacity, serious cranking leverage, and the confidence to stay connected when a trophy fish digs deep. Its 5.0:1 high gear helps recover line and work a presentation, while the 2.4:1 low gear gives you the leverage to keep turning during a long fight.

Picture the moment a big tuna settles into a deep run. The HX 5/2 Raptor Plus MC gives you a solid, controlled platform, a smooth lever drag, and the low-gear authority to keep pressure steady instead of fighting the reel. Precision-machined 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum, stainless steel components, and a multi-color anodized finish make it a purpose-built tool for demanding saltwater work. Made in the USA.

When More Line Capacity and More Leverage Matter

The wide HX profile is the right move when a compact reel does not provide enough room or power for your plan. Choose it for long-range trips, deep-water presentations, and trophy-class tuna or billfish where a fish may take line before you can turn it. The 2-speed system lets you fish fast when the opportunity opens up, then slow down and grind when the fight gets heavy.

Fast Recovery, Heavy-Fish Control

• 5.0:1 high gear: Gain line on running fish and work or recover lures efficiently.
• 2.4:1 low gear: Apply deliberate cranking power when a fish sounds or makes a deep run.
• Smooth shifting: Move between speeds as the fight changes instead of forcing one gear to do everything.
• Lever drag control: Make quick, precise pressure adjustments while keeping your attention on the fish.

The Right Pick If...

• You fish for giant bluefin, yellowfin tuna, marlin, sailfish, or other trophy offshore species.
• You want a wide-profile reel for long-range trips and maximum line capacity.
• You need a 2-speed setup that can move quickly and still deliver low-gear leverage.
• You fish deep-water jigs or heavy tackle for large yellowtail and white seabass.
• You prefer the distinctive MC multi-color anodized finish and a choice of right- or left-hand models.

Best Techniques and Conditions

• Long-range live bait: Use high gear to recover line during a fast run, then shift low when the fish settles into a deep pull.
• Deep-water jigging: The wide profile gives you a serious platform for deep presentations, while the two speeds help manage both retrieve and hookup pressure.
• Heavy offshore bait and trolling: Choose the HX 5/2 when large fish, long runs, and demanding saltwater conditions call for added capacity and leverage.
• Trophy billfish: Keep pressure smooth and deliberate, using low gear when the fish turns into a sustained, heavy fight.
