Abu Garcia Precision Grease is formulated specifically for high-performance fishing reel components — a low viscosity grease engineered to lubricate gears, bearings, and moving parts in baitcast reels without the drag and resistance of heavier general-purpose greases. Heat and cold resistant for consistent performance across a wide range of fishing conditions, with corrosion protection that extends component life in both freshwater and saltwater environments. 1 oz.

Key Features

• Low Viscosity Formula — Lower viscosity than general-purpose greases allows the lubricant to flow into tight tolerances between gears, bearings, and moving parts without creating drag or resistance; critical for high-performance baitcast reels where excess lubricant viscosity reduces casting distance and retrieve smoothness.
• High-Performance Parts — Formulated for the precision tolerances of high-performance reel components — main gears, pinion gears, level wind mechanisms, and bearing races; provides the lubrication film needed to protect metal-on-metal contact points under the sustained load of fighting large fish.
• Heat & Cold Resistant — Maintains consistent viscosity and lubrication performance across a wide temperature range; does not thin out and run in hot summer conditions or thicken and stiffen in cold water winter fishing — critical for year-round reel performance without seasonal re-lubrication.
• Corrosion Protection — Corrosion-inhibiting formula protects metal reel components from rust and oxidation in both freshwater and saltwater environments; extends the service life of gears, bearings, and moving parts exposed to water, humidity, and salt spray.
• Baitcast Reel Optimized — Specifically recommended for baitcast reels where gear and bearing lubrication directly affects casting performance and retrieve smoothness; compatible with Abu Garcia baitcast reels and other high-performance baitcasters requiring precision lubrication.

Best For

• Baitcast Reel Maintenance — Primary application for baitcast reel gear and bearing lubrication during routine maintenance; apply to main gear, pinion gear, level wind worm gear, and bearing races for smooth, quiet operation and maximum casting performance.
• Saltwater Reel Protection — Corrosion-inhibiting formula provides essential protection for reel components exposed to saltwater, salt spray, and high-humidity coastal environments; apply after saltwater use to displace moisture and protect metal components from corrosion.
• Year-Round Use — Heat and cold resistance makes the Precision Grease effective across all seasons without changing lubricants; consistent viscosity from cold water winter fishing through hot summer conditions eliminates the need for seasonal lubrication changes.
• Abu Garcia Reel Service — The manufacturer’s recommended grease for Abu Garcia baitcast reel service; using the correct viscosity and formulation maintains warranty compliance and ensures optimal performance from Abu Garcia reel components.

The Accu-Cull Clip-On Culling Tag Kit is a tournament-grade culling system built around a no-damage clip design that attaches to the fish without harming it — the clip-on mechanism secures the tag without puncturing or tearing, keeping your tournament fish in the best possible condition through the weigh-in. The high-strength polymer clips are engineered to hold securely under normal tournament conditions while remaining easy to attach and remove quickly at the livewell. 3 Tackle Express Tips

1. Prepare before weighing. Install batteries, select your unit, and let the display return to zero before attaching a fish. Follow the included instructions for using the grip.
2. Keep the reading steady. Minimize movement while weighing and confirm the hold reading before recording it. If a reading looks questionable, reset and repeat.
3. Keep units consistent. Record pounds as decimals when using the pound display. For example, 3.50 lb is three and a half pounds, not three pounds and fifty ounces.

Frequently asked questions

Is this scale waterproof?

This model is listed as water resistant. Keep it out of the water and dry it before storage.

Are batteries included?

No. Have two AAA batteries ready before your trip.

What is the maximum capacity?

The listed capacity is 55 pounds or 25 kilograms. Do not exceed it.

What does a hundredth-of-a-pound display mean?

It shows pound readings in increments of 0.01 lb. Display resolution alone should not be treated as a promise that every field measurement is accurate to that amount.

Does it also measure length?

Yes. A tape is built into the scale. Accu-Cull lists it as 38 inches / 1 meter; those are the manufacturer's nominal specifications, not an exact unit conversion.

When you're locked in a fight with tuna, yellowtail, or any hard-charging offshore target, a shifting reel isn't just annoying — it kills your leverage and risks losing the fish. The Accurate Ascender Reel Clamp Kit is the OEM solution engineered specifically for Ascender series reels, delivering rock-solid rod seat mounting under extreme drag pressure.

When the Fight Gets Real

High-torque cranking puts massive stress on the reel-to-rod connection. Standard reel seats can loosen over time, especially on heavy drag setups. This kit locks your Ascender down hard — no movement, no creep, no compromise. It's what serious offshore anglers reach for before heading to the grounds.

What's In the Box

• Heavy-duty reel clamp (black corrosion-resistant finish)
• Mounting studs
• Securing nuts
• All hardware needed for a complete installation

Built for Ascender Reels — Nothing Else

This is an Accurate-specific kit. It is not a universal clamp. Compatible reels must have stud holes — narrow versions of the Ascender series do not have stud holes and are not compatible. Verify your exact model before ordering.

The Right Pick If...

• You're running an Accurate Ascender 300, 400, or 500 series reel
• You're fishing offshore for tuna, yellowtail, or large pelagics

Best For

• Bluefin, yellowfin, and bigeye tuna
• Yellowtail and amberjack
• Large pelagics requiring sustained drag pressure
• Any Accurate Ascender 300/400/500 owner wanting secure, OEM-grade mounting

Tackle Express Tips

• Apply a small amount of anti-seize compound to the mounting studs before installation — it makes removal much easier after extended salt exposure.
• Confirm your Ascender model number before selecting size. The 400 size can go either way depending on the specific reel — check the reel body for stud hole placement.
• Inspect the clamp and studs annually if fishing in heavy saltwater conditions, especially on live bait or chunking trips where the reel sees continuous load.

FAQ

Will this fit a narrow version of the Accurate Ascender?
No. Narrow Ascender models do not have stud holes and are not compatible with this clamp kit. Only standard (non-narrow) Ascender reels can use this hardware.

Do I need any special tools to install this kit?
No special tools required. Standard hand tools are sufficient for installation. All mounting hardware is included in the kit.

Which size should I order for an Ascender 400?
The Ascender 400 is compatible with both Small and Large versions of this kit depending on the specific variant. Check your reel's stud hole configuration or contact us and we can help confirm the right fit.

The Accurate Ascender Star Drag Reel brings Accurate's legendary TwinStarDrag® technology into a lightweight, USA-made conventional package. Whether you're casting iron for yellowtail, soaking live bait for tuna, or working the bottom for striped bass, this reel delivers smooth, consistent drag pressure with the durability anglers expect from Accurate.

Where Standard Star Drags Fall Short

Most conventional star drag reels apply drag pressure from a single side of the main gear. Under sustained load, that creates uneven wear and heat buildup that degrades smoothness over time. The Ascender's patented TwinStarDrag® system applies stainless steel and carbon fiber washers on both sides of the main gear — distributing pressure evenly, running cooler, and maintaining consistency across multiple runs. It's the same core drag philosophy as Accurate's lever drag lineup, now in a star drag format.

Built on the Ascender Platform

• TwinStarDrag® system — dual-sided drag application on the main gear, up to 24 lbs max drag depending on model
• 6061 T-6 aircraft-grade aluminum with CVX® frame — rigid, lightweight, built in the USA
• Xtreme Casting Technology® (XCT) — centrifugal cast control system reduces backlash and extends casting distance
• Main Gear Bearing Support (MBS) — reduces flex in the gear train under high drag loads
• 6 ABEC 3 ball bearings + 1 roller bearing — ultra-smooth retrieve

Tackle Express Tips

• The AX-300X and AX-400X are the go-to sizes for local kelp and island trips targeting yellowtail on live bait or iron. Light enough to cast all day, enough drag to turn fish on 30–40 lb braid.
• The XN (narrow) models (500XN, 600XN) hold less line but are more compact and better balanced on lighter rods. If you're fishing 50–65 lb braid on a shorter stick, the XN is worth the tradeoff.
• Before your first salt trip, back the star drag off completely and re-set it under load — it seats the drag washers evenly and gives you a more accurate feel for where your drag pressure settings actually are.

FAQ

What's the difference between the X and XN models?
The XN (narrow) variants have a smaller spool capacity and a more compact profile. They're ideal when you don't need full line capacity but want a lighter, better-balanced reel on a medium-action rod.

Is the Ascender Star Drag made in the USA?
Yes. Accurate manufactures their reels in the USA, and the Ascender Star Drag is no exception. That's part of what justifies the price point over import alternatives.

How does TwinStarDrag® differ from a standard star drag?
Standard star drags apply pressure from one side of the main gear. TwinStarDrag® applies stainless and carbon fiber drag washers on both sides simultaneously — distributing heat and pressure evenly for smoother, more consistent performance under sustained load.

Cinching a knot tight with bare hands is one of the fastest ways to cut yourself on the water. The Accurate Knot Puller solves that problem cleanly — it lets you seat your knot with full, even pressure and zero risk of the line slicing into your fingers. Whether you're building a leader topside or re-rigging mid-trip, this is the kind of small tool you notice immediately when you don't have it.

The Line-Cutting Problem

Fluorocarbon and heavy braid don't give. When you pull a knot tight by hand on 50–80 lb line, you're either not cinching it fully — leaving a weaker knot — or you're cutting into your hands. Over a long trip with multiple re-rigs, that adds up. The Accurate Knot Puller gives you a rubber-coated grip surface that the line bites into, letting you apply full pulling force without contact with the line itself.

How It Works

The knot puller is two pieces that screw together for a compact profile that fits in a tackle tray or pocket. It includes a hole at the top for a keyring or lanyard attachment, and a slot that accepts a hook directly — useful for cinching connection knots at the hook end. Both pieces have a black rubber coating that gives the line something to grip during the pull.

The Right Pick If...

• You tie knots with heavier fluorocarbon or braid where bare-hand cinching risks injury
• You re-rig frequently on the water and want a compact, pocketable tool for the job
• You want a clean way to seat Bimini twists, FG knots, uni-to-uni connections, or hook snells consistently
• You're building a gift kit for a serious saltwater angler — this is a tool that gets used every trip

Best Fishing Techniques

• Leader building (fluorocarbon and monofilament)
• FG knot and uni-to-uni connections on braid-to-leader junctions
• Hook snells and Palomar knots
• Any application where you need a fully seated, tight knot on heavy line

Best For

• Offshore and nearshore saltwater anglers rigging with 30–100 lb leaders
• Anglers who tie their own rigs and leaders regularly
• Boat deckhands and guides who re-rig throughout the day
• Anyone who has ever cut their hand cinching a knot and decided not to do it again

Key Features

• Two-piece screw-together design — compact, fits in a pocket or tackle tray
• Black rubber coating on both pieces — grip surface for the line and your hand
• Hook slot — accept a hook directly for cinching connection knots at the hook end
• Keyring hole — attach to a lanyard or tackle bag zipper
• Available in 4" size (3" also available — contact us if you need it)
• Made by Accurate Reels

Tackle Express Tips

• Use both pieces of the knot puller simultaneously for FG knots — one on the braid tag end, one on the leader. You'll get a noticeably tighter, more consistent finish than pulling by hand or with gloves.
• Keep one clipped to your tackle bag zipper on a lanyard. It's the kind of tool you always know where it is until you don't bring it — then you miss it every rig.
• The rubber coating works better dry. If your hands are wet, give the puller a quick wipe before pulling down on heavy fluorocarbon so the line seats cleanly against the grip surface.

FAQ

What sizes does the Accurate Knot Puller come in?
Accurate makes the knot puller in a 3" and 4" version. The 4" is stocked here. If you need the 3" version, contact us and we can check availability.

Can I use this for braid-to-leader connections?
Yes — it works well for any line-to-line or line-to-hook connection where you need to apply pulling tension to seat the knot. The rubber-coated grip surface gives the line traction so you can pull fully without it cutting into your skin.

How do I attach it to my gear so I don't lose it?
There's a hole at the top of the knot puller designed for a keyring or lanyard. Most anglers clip it to a tackle bag, rod holder, or belt loop so it's accessible without digging through a tray mid-trip.

The Accurate Reel Clamp Kit is the OEM mounting hardware for Accurate reels — designed to lock your reel to the rod seat with zero movement under heavy drag and high-torque cranking. Available in standard and narrow versions across multiple finish colors to match your setup.

Loose Reels Lose Fish

A reel that shifts or creeps on the rod seat during a long fight isn't just annoying — it affects your leverage, changes your drag angle, and can compromise the rod-reel connection at the worst possible moment. Accurate's OEM clamp kits are the correct hardware for these reels, machined to fit the seat studs precisely. A proper clamp means the reel stays exactly where you set it, from the first crank to the last.

Wide Compatibility

These clamp kits fit the full range of Accurate conventional reels:

• Boss series
• Valiant series
• Extreme series
• Dauntless series
• Fury series
• Tern series

Important: Select the Narrow option for narrow-spool models including 400N, 500N, and 600NN. Standard and narrow clamps are not interchangeable — verify your reel model before ordering.

The Right Pick If...

• Your existing clamp is worn, damaged, or missing and you need OEM replacement hardware
• You're building a new rod-and-reel combo and need the correct clamp for your Accurate reel
• You want to color-match your clamp to your reel finish (silver, black, red, or gold)
• You're running a narrow-spool Accurate and need the correct narrow clamp — not a standard one

Key Features

• OEM Accurate hardware — correct fit for Boss, Valiant, Extreme, Dauntless, Fury, and Tern series
• Available in Standard and Narrow — narrow fits 400N, 500N, 600NN models
• Five finish options — Narrow Silver, Silver, Red, Black, Gold
• Complete kit — includes all hardware needed for installation
• Corrosion-resistant finish — built for saltwater environments

Models & Variants

Tackle Express Tips

• If you're unsure whether your reel is a standard or narrow spool, check the model number. Any model ending in N (e.g., 500N, 600NN) requires the Narrow clamp. Standard models without the N suffix take the regular clamp.
• Apply a small amount of anti-seize compound to the mounting studs before installation — it makes removal much easier after extended salt exposure and prevents the hardware from galling over time.
• Inspect the clamp hardware annually, especially on reels that see heavy drag pressure regularly. The studs and nuts are the weak point — if they show corrosion or wear, replace the kit before your next offshore trip.

FAQ

How do I know if I need the Narrow or Standard clamp?
If your reel model number includes an N (e.g., 400N, 500N, 600NN), you need the Narrow version. Standard models without an N suffix take the standard clamp. If you're still unsure, contact us with your reel model number and we'll confirm.

Does this kit include all the hardware I need?
Yes — the kit includes the clamp, mounting studs, and securing nuts. Everything needed for a complete installation is included.

Will this fit my Accurate Ascender?
The Ascender has its own dedicated clamp kit listed separately. These kits are for Boss, Valiant, Extreme, Dauntless, Fury, and Tern series reels. Check the Accurate Ascender Reel Clamp Kit listing if you have an Ascender.

Your Accurate reel is a serious investment. The Accurate Reel Cover is a custom-fit neoprene cover designed specifically for Accurate reels — not a generic slip-on, but a tailored cover that fits the profile of the reel correctly and stays put. Whether you're traveling to the grounds, storing rods in a rod locker, or hanging a rigged rod between drifts, this cover keeps your reel protected and your hook or lure secured.

What Generic Covers Get Wrong

A loose or ill-fitting cover bunches up, falls off, and doesn't protect the parts that matter — the drag knob, handle, and side plates. The Accurate cover is built to the dimensions of their own reel lineup, so it seats cleanly against the frame without gaps. The rear wrap secures around the back of the reel or rod so it won't work loose in a rod locker or during transport.

What's Included

• Neoprene construction — soft, form-fitting protection that won't scratch your reel or rod
• Heavy-duty composite ring — built into the cover for hooking lures or hooks when the rod is rigged and stored
• Rear wrap — wraps around the back of the reel or rod seat to secure the cover in place
• Accurate logo and signature red/black colorway — clean look that matches Accurate's reel aesthetic

Size Guide

The Right Pick If...

• You store rigged rods in a rod locker or rod rack and want the hook or lure contained
• You're traveling to a charter or overnight trip and want your reel protected during transport
• You want an OEM Accurate cover that actually fits your reel — not a generic neoprene bag
• You're gifting a reel or building out a complete rod-and-reel setup and want the finishing touch

Key Features

• Custom fit — designed specifically for Accurate reel dimensions
• Neoprene construction — soft, scratch-free protection
• Composite hook ring — secures your rigged hook or lure
• Rear wrap secures cover — won't fall off in a rod locker
• Accurate branding — red and black logo colorway
• 4 sizes — Small, Medium, Large, X-Large

Tackle Express Tips

• When in doubt between two sizes, go larger. A slightly loose cover is better than one that stresses the neoprene and doesn't seat cleanly over the handle and drag knob.
• Use the composite ring to clip the hook of a rigged jig or live bait rig to keep it from swinging and fouling other rods in the locker during a run to the grounds.
• Rinse the cover with fresh water after saltwater trips just like you would the reel. Salt buildup in the neoprene can transfer back to the reel's finish over time.

FAQ

Which size fits a Valiant 500N?
The Medium (ARC-M) fits the 500N. It also covers the 400, 400N, and standard 500.

Does this cover work on a rod-and-reel combo, or just the reel alone?
Both. The rear wrap is designed to go around the back of the reel or secure to the rod seat area, so it works whether the reel is mounted on a rod or stored off the rod.

Is this the same cover Accurate ships with their reels?
Yes — this is the OEM Accurate reel cover. It's the same cover included with many of their reels and sold separately as a replacement or additional cover for spare setups.

The Accurate Tern 2 is the evolution of one of Accurate's most popular conventional star drag reels. It keeps everything that made the original Tern a go-to for saltwater anglers — lightweight aluminum frame, smooth operation, genuine castability — and adds TwinStarDrag® (TSD) technology, a first in the star drag category. If you fish kelp paddies, rocks, or offshore structure and want Accurate-grade drag performance in a star drag format, the Tern 2 is the benchmark.

Why the Original Tern Needed an Upgrade

Single-sided drag systems heat up and lose consistency under sustained pressure. The original Tern performed well, but Accurate's engineers applied the same dual-sided drag philosophy from their lever drag lineup to develop TwinStarDrag® — applying stainless and carbon fiber washers on both sides of the main gear simultaneously. The result is smoother, more even pressure, better heat dissipation, and higher maximum drag without the star getting notchy under load.

What's New in the Tern 2

• TwinStarDrag® (TSD) — first-of-its-kind dual-surface drag in a star drag reel; smoother and more powerful than single-sided designs
• Main Gear Bearing Support (MGBS) — patent-pending system that reduces gear flex under load for smoother, stronger operation
• Xtreme Casting Technology® (XCT) — side spool tension adjustment and centrifugal control for clean, long casts with minimal backlash
• CVX® curved frame technology — 6061 T-6 aircraft-grade aluminum, lightweight and rigid
• Stainless steel gears — corrosion-resistant, built for full saltwater exposure
• 6 ABEC 5 bearings — ultra-smooth retrieve
• Side spool tension adjustment — fine-tune spool brake for your bait weight and casting style

The Right Pick If...

• You want Accurate's TwinDrag® performance philosophy in a star drag reel without stepping up to a lever drag
• You're targeting yellowtail, white seabass, tuna, or any species requiring consistent drag pressure on a conventional setup
• You fish offshore or nearshore and need a reel that can cast iron as well as soak bait
• You're upgrading from an entry or mid-level star drag and want a premium, USA-assembled option

Best Fishing Techniques

• Live bait (sardines, mackerel, squid)
• Iron casting / metal jigs
• Bottom fishing and dropper loops
• Slow pitch jigging (lighter models)

Best Conditions

• Kelp paddies and island fishing
• Nearshore and offshore saltwater
• Rocky bottom structure for bass, sheephead, and lingcod
• High-current conditions where casting accuracy matters

Best For

• Yellowtail, white seabass, and bluefin tuna
• Striped bass and inshore pelagics
• Anglers stepping up from mid-level star drag reels who want Accurate quality and TSD technology
• Versatile anglers who need one reel that casts iron and fishes live bait

Key Features

• TwinStarDrag® (TSD) — dual-sided main gear drag, first of its kind in a star drag
• MGBS Main Gear Bearing Support — patent-pending, reduces gear flex
• XCT® casting technology — centrifugal + side tension adjustment
• CVX® aluminum frame — 6061 T-6, lightweight and strong
• Stainless steel gears
• 6 ABEC 5 bearings
• Side spool tension knob
• X models: 6:1 gear ratio (standard models: 5:1)

Models & Specs

Table shows X-series (6:1) variants only — the models stocked here. Standard ratio (5:1) versions also available; contact us if you need a specific model.

Tackle Express Tips

• The TXD-400X is the sweet spot for most kelp and island live bait fishing in Southern California — enough capacity for 50 lb braid, light enough to cast iron without fatigue, and 24 lbs of drag for when a solid yellowtail shows up.
• XN models (500XN, 600XN) have a narrower spool than their X counterparts. They hold less line but balance better on a shorter, lighter rod. If you're fishing 50 lb and don't need maximum capacity, the XN will feel more natural in hand.
• Use the side tension knob to dial in spool brake before switching between iron and live bait. A few clicks tighter for casting iron reduces backlash; back off slightly for live bait to let the fish run without feeling unnatural resistance before hookup.

FAQ

What makes the Tern 2 different from the original Tern?
The Tern 2 adds TwinStarDrag® (TSD) technology — a dual-sided drag system on the main gear — and the new MGBS Main Gear Bearing Support system. Both are upgrades that deliver smoother drag, more consistent pressure under load, and better durability compared to the original single-sided design.

What's the difference between XN and X models?
The XN (narrow) variants have a smaller spool with less line capacity but a more compact, lighter profile. They're ideal when you don't need full capacity and prefer a better-balanced reel on a medium-weight rod. The X models hold more line — better for deep water or when you're using heavier braid.

Can I cast iron with the Tern 2?
Yes — and this is one of the Tern 2's strengths. The XCT® system with side spool tension adjustment was specifically designed to make conventional reels more castable. It's not a baitcaster, but for conventional iron anglers used to thumbing a reel, the Tern 2 casts noticeably cleaner than comparable star drag designs.

Accurate Tern 2 Star Drag - Special Los Angeles Edition

The Special Los Angeles Edition Tern 2 features a striking blue and silver finish with a custom-engraved side plate that celebrates LA's iconic culture. The engraving includes "I Love LA" lettering, Los Angeles script, a baseball, and palm trees — a nod to the city's rich fishing heritage and its unmistakable SoCal lifestyle. It's a limited-edition collector's piece that stands out on the boat as much as it performs on the water.

Why Anglers Choose the Accurate Tern 2 Star Drag

The Accurate Tern 2 Star Drag is a purpose-built conventional reel engineered for anglers who demand precision, power, and reliability when targeting hard-fighting saltwater gamefish. Built in the USA from 7075 aircraft-grade aluminum, the Tern 2 combines Accurate's signature TwinStar Drag system with stainless steel gears and an ARB anti-reverse bearing to deliver the stopping power and hook-setting authority needed for tuna, yellowtail, and other pelagic bruisers.

Built for Live Bait and Jig Fishing

The main benefit of the Tern 2 is its star drag configuration, which gives anglers the ability to make quick, on-the-fly drag adjustments during a fight — critical when a big fish makes a sudden run. The TwinStar Drag system places dual carbon drag plates on both sides of the spool for smooth, consistent pressure with no grab or stutter, even at high drag settings. Combined with the instant anti-reverse bearing, you get solid hooksets and the stopping power to turn a fish before it reaches structure.

The Problem It Solves

Many conventional reels in this class suffer from inconsistent drag pressure, heavy weight that causes fatigue during long days on the water, or gears that strip under heavy load. The Tern 2 addresses all three: the TwinStar Drag delivers buttery-smooth, consistent pressure throughout the fight, the 7075 aluminum frame keeps weight down without sacrificing rigidity, and the stainless steel gear train handles high-torque cranking without flexing or failing.

What Makes It Stand Out — and What to Watch For

Advantages: Made in the USA with 7075 aircraft-grade aluminum, TwinStar dual-drag system for smooth and consistent pressure, ARB instant anti-reverse for solid hooksets, stainless steel main and pinion gears for durability, 6 stainless steel ball bearings for ultra-smooth operation, and a power handle for maximum cranking leverage.

Considerations: As a star drag reel, it's optimized for live bait and jig fishing rather than high-speed lure casting. The single-speed design means no on-the-fly gear ratio changes — if you need two-speed capability, consider a lever drag model instead. The premium price reflects the USA-made construction and high-end components.

The Right Pick If...

You fish live bait or yo-yo jigs for tuna, yellowtail, amberjack, or other powerful saltwater species and want a reel that delivers smooth, consistent drag and rock-solid hooksets. The Tern 2 is ideal for private boaters, sport boat anglers, and long-range fishermen who need USA-made reliability without the complexity of a two-speed reel.

Best Fishing Techniques

• Live Bait Fishing: Fly-line a sardine or mackerel with the reel in free spool, then engage and set the hook — the star drag lets you fine-tune pressure as the fight develops
• Yo-Yo Jigging: Drop a heavy iron jig to the bottom and wind fast — the power handle and high-speed retrieve bring the jig through the strike zone efficiently
• Bottom Fishing: The strong drag and rigid frame make it well-suited for pulling hard-fighting bottom fish up from deep water
• Flat-Fall Jigging: Drop a flat-fall jig and let it flutter — the smooth drag pays out line without backlash when a fish strikes on the fall

Tackle Express Tips

• Pre-Set Your Drag: Before the first bait hits the water, set your drag to approximately 25–30% of your line's breaking strength. The star drag lets you fine-tune during the fight, but starting in the right zone prevents break-offs on the initial run
• Keep It Clean: After every saltwater trip, rinse the reel with fresh water and let it air dry. A light coat of reel oil on the handle knob and drag washers keeps everything running smooth trip after trip
• Match Your Rod: Pair the Tern 2 with a medium-heavy to heavy conventional rod rated for 30–80 lb line. A well-matched rod lets the reel's drag system work at its full potential

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between star drag and lever drag?

Star drag reels use a star-shaped knob to adjust drag pressure, giving you fine control during the fight. Lever drag reels use a preset lever system with strike and full positions. Star drag is preferred by many anglers for live bait fishing because you can make micro-adjustments on the fly, while lever drag is often favored for trolling and chunking where you want repeatable, preset drag settings.

Is the Tern 2 suitable for trolling?

While the Tern 2 can handle trolling applications, it's optimized for live bait and jig fishing where the star drag's adjustability shines. For dedicated trolling, a lever drag reel may offer more convenient preset drag positions. That said, many anglers successfully troll with star drag reels, especially for smaller tuna and yellowtail.

Slow pitch jigging demands a very specific reel — light enough to work the rod all day, powerful enough to turn serious fish, and precise enough to feel every flutter of the jig. The Accurate Valiant 2 SPJ was built with exactly that in mind. It combines Accurate's legendary TwinDrag® system with a purpose-built SPJ configuration: elongated handle, no clicker, and an aircraft-grade aluminum frame that won't weigh you down on the long drop.

Why Standard Jigging Reels Fall Short for SPJ

Conventional jigging reels are designed for speed and power, but slow pitch technique is about rhythm, load, and release. A reel with the wrong handle length, too heavy a body, or clicker noise breaks the cadence that makes SPJ work. The Valiant 2 SPJ eliminates those compromises — it's tuned specifically for the technique, not adapted from a general-purpose design.

Built for the Valiant 2 Platform

• 6061 T-6 aircraft-grade aluminum with CVX® curved frame — exceptional rigidity with minimal weight, reduces fatigue across multi-drop days
• TwinDrag® system — up to 30 lbs of smooth, consistent stopping power for hard-running pelagics
• Xtreme Cast Technology (XCT®) — minimizes backlash, maximizes casting distance for run-and-gun presentations
• 17-4 stainless steel gears with reinforced shaft — high torque under sustained drag pressure
• Sleeved spool design — reduces friction for superior free spool performance during the drop
• Elongated handle arm with SPJ knob — optimized cranking leverage and grip for slow pitch rhythm
• Drag cam detent — prevents accidental free spool; push-button stop for full-drag engagement
• Clicker removed — quieter operation during extended SPJ sessions

The Right Pick If...

• You're fishing slow pitch jigs in the 100–600ft range for yellowtail, amberjack, or bottom-oriented pelagics
• You want a single-speed reel purpose-built for SPJ — not a general lever drag with an afterthought handle swap
• You're targeting species that make long, powerful runs where TwinDrag® stopping power earns its keep
• You want a compact, lightweight setup that still has the backbone for 30 lbs of drag

Best Fishing Techniques

• Slow pitch jigging (SPJ)
• Speed jigging (secondary)
• Live bait offshore
• Deep drop

Best Conditions

• Offshore bluewater, mid-range depths (100–600 ft)
• Rocky bottom structure for amberjack, grouper, and bass
• Current-heavy environments where precise jig action matters
• Saltwater environments requiring corrosion-resistant construction

Best For

• Yellowtail, amberjack, and dogtooth tuna
• Grouper and bottom-dwelling pelagics
• Bluefin and yellowfin tuna on SPJ presentations
• Any angler transitioning from vertical jigging to a dedicated SPJ setup

Models & Specs

Note: Some models do not include a rod clamp due to frame design. A separate reel clamp or seat may be required.

Tackle Express Tips

• For most Southern California SPJ applications targeting yellowtail and white seabass, the VT2-300-SPJ paired with a 200–250g slow pitch rod is a highly effective starting combo.
• Spool with PE 1.5–2.0 braid on the 300, PE 2.0–3.0 on the 500N and 600N. Thinner braid improves jig fall rate and reduces current drag at depth.
• The elongated SPJ knob is optimized for palm cranking — resist the urge to high-speed wind. Let the reel do the work on the drop and use short, rhythmic cranks on the retrieve.

FAQ

What makes this different from a standard Valiant 2?
The SPJ version includes an elongated handle arm with a dedicated SPJ knob, removes the clicker for quieter operation, and is factory-tuned for the slower cadence of slow pitch jigging. The frame and drag system are the same Valiant 2 platform.

Does the VT2-300-SPJ come with a rod clamp?
No — some Valiant 2 SPJ models do not include a rod clamp due to the frame design. Check your rod's reel seat compatibility or pick up an Accurate reel clamp kit separately if needed.

Which model should I choose for offshore tuna on SPJ?
The VT2-500N-SPJ or VT2-600N-SPJ are better choices for larger tuna. The 500N offers 30 lbs max drag at 14.8 oz — a great balance of capacity and weight. Step up to the 600N if you're targeting heavier fish or fishing deeper water with heavier jigs.

Engineered for serious slow-pitch anglers, the Accurate Valiant BV2 SPJ 500N Slow Pitch Jigging Reels delivers exceptional performance, durability, and finesse to every drop. Every design choice is optimized for jigging — from the light, curved frame to the drag system engineered for smooth power — so you can focus on technique and the fight, not your gear.

Key Features & Benefits

• TwinDrag® System
The Valiant SPJ uses a patented TwinDrag® setup, applying drag pressure evenly from both sides of the spool. This reduces uneven wear, improves heat dissipation, and gives you smoother drag performance under load.

• CVX® Curved Frame & Sideplate Design
Machined from high-grade aluminum, the frame and sideplate adopt a curved structure (CVX® technology) that removes unnecessary material while preserving rigidity. This results in a lighter reel with excellent strength and torsional resistance.

• 17-4 Stainless Steel Gears & Shaft
Internal drive components are made from 17-4 heat-treated stainless steel, providing longevity, corrosion resistance, and reliable torque even in harsh saltwater environments.

• Sleeved Spool Construction
A sleeved spool design reduces friction on the spool shaft, enhancing free-spool performance. That means smoother drops, better line behavior, and less friction drag when letting your jigs fall.

• Optimized SPJ Components
Compared to standard Valiant models, SPJ versions typically omit the clicker, include an SPJ-specific knob, and use a handle length tailored for jigging leverage. These refinements improve ergonomics and reduce fatigue during long sessions.

• High Drag Capacity in Compact Package
Despite their relatively lightweight builds, Valiant SPJ reels can deliver robust drag — suitable for serious bottom fish, tuna, and other strong fighters — depending on model (e.g. 24 lb, 30 lb, or more).

• Made in the USA / Quality Craftsmanship
These are assembled and tested under high standards to ensure precision tolerances and consistent performance.

The Accurate Valiant VT2 2-Speed Lever Drag Reel is the workhorse of Accurate's offshore lineup — a full-featured, USA-made conventional reel designed for anglers who need serious drag power, two-speed versatility, and a lightweight frame that won't wear them down over a long day on the water. From yellowtail and tuna to wahoo and large offshore pelagics, the VT2 is built to handle whatever you put it up against.

When One Speed Isn't Enough

On a single-speed reel, you're locked into one retrieve rate regardless of the situation. When a fish reverses direction or surges toward the boat, you either crank faster or lose ground. The VT2's DirecShift® two-speed system lets you drop from high gear into low gear instantly — without taking the reel out of strike drag, without losing your fighting position. When a big tuna decides to go deep, low gear is the difference between gaining line and watching the spool empty.

Built on the Valiant 2 Platform

• TwinDrag® system — dual-sided drag pressure on the main gear for smooth, even stopping power under sustained load
• DirecShift® 2-speed technology — seamless high-to-low gear transition without losing drag engagement
• 6061 T-6 aircraft-grade aluminum with CVX® curved frame — lightweight, rigid, made in the USA
• Xtreme Cast Technology (XCT®) — minimizes backlash for a lever drag reel that can actually cast
• 17-4 stainless steel gears with reinforced shaft — high torque under heavy drag pressure
• 8 Class 5 ABEC stainless steel bearings — fluid operation across the full retrieve range
• Drag cam detent — prevents accidental shift to free spool; push-button stop for full-drag engagement
• Clicker — alerts you to line movement on a soak

Tackle Express Tips

• The "S" suffix on VT2 models denotes silver finish — confirm color preference before ordering if your customer has a specific aesthetic in mind for a matched rod-and-reel setup.
• On the initial drop for live bait, use high gear so you can adjust tension quickly. Once a fish is hooked and burning deep, shift to low gear to maintain consistent pressure without fatiguing your wrist.
• Pair the VT2 500S with a 50–80 lb class stand-up rod for bluefin tuna on the rail. The lightweight CVX® frame makes a meaningful difference over a multi-hour drift session.

FAQ

What does DirecShift® mean on the VT2?
DirecShift® is Accurate's 2-speed shifting system that allows you to switch between high and low gear ratios instantly while the reel is engaged — no need to back off drag or stop reeling. It's designed specifically for fighting large, unpredictable fish that change depth or direction mid-fight.

What's the difference between the 600NS and 600N on other Valiant models?
The "N" denotes narrow spool for reduced line capacity and a more compact profile. The "S" suffix indicates silver finish. The 600NS is the narrow, silver-finish variant of the VT2 600 — ideal when you want a lighter, better-balanced setup and don't need maximum line capacity.

Is the Accurate Valiant VT2 made in the USA?
Yes. Accurate manufactures their reels domestically in the USA. The VT2 series is part of that same production line, which is a key differentiator from similarly-priced offshore reels made overseas.

Stay steady and comfortable through long days on wet decks with the AFTCO Ankle Deck Fishing Boots. Their lightweight, quick-drying construction, ankle-height profile, and non-marking high-traction rubber sole make them a practical choice for anglers moving between the boat, dock, pier, and shoreline.

Sure Footing Without a Bulky Boot

Slippery surfaces and heavy footwear can make a full day of fishing harder than it needs to be. These boots combine dependable deck traction with a streamlined ankle-height design that stays out of the way while casting, handling tackle, or working around the boat.

Why Anglers Choose Them

The low-profile build is easier to move in than a tall deck boot, while the breathable, quick-dry materials are suited to warm fishing conditions. Choose them when mobility, grip, and easy all-day wear matter more than the added coverage of a taller boot.
