Castaic Lake Report 08-10-2025

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

A good week of Bass fishing was enjoyed by most anglers focused on the early hours. The surface bite came back strong during the week with 25 fish per angler half-days not out of the question. Spot casting to individual fish feeding on the surface is the key to lots of action. No blind casting, just waiting for the fish to show themselves, then casting into the splash circle within a few seconds. Once the surface bite subsides, switch over to a dropshot rig and fish along steep walls and main-lake points in the five to twenty five foot depth range. C3 Baits Shimmy’s and Bait Merchant Caligators continue to top the list of productive baits. Wacky rigged Senko’s and C3 Baits Slim Pro’s fished in the same areas are producing some quality fish to three pounds.

Striped Bass:

Prolonged surface boils in the forebay and buoy line area are keeping anglers busy, surface casting to big schools of six pound fish with just about any white surface lure. Lucky Craft Gunfish 100’s and Espetit 95’s are the go-to choices because of their greater casting distance. Good colors for the Gunfish are the mainstays, Ghost Minnow or Aurora Black (not really black) and White Flash for the Espetit. The bite can be anytime of day, but the mornings between 6 and 10 seem to have the most opportunity.

Bluegill:

‘Gills are biting near overhanging green bushes that provide shade in the backs of coves like Dry Gulch, Hawks Nest and Utopia. A small piece of red worm or meal worm will get bit all day. Great fun for the kids as it is a very visual bite and easy to do.
