Castaic Lake Report 07-27-2025
Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
The great Bass fishing continued this week with a good surface bite from 7:00 to 9:00. Bait Merchant 007 Riser Baits, Megabass Karashi’s and C3 Baits Flukensteins have all been effective, spot casting to the individual blowups or small boils. Lucky Craft Pointer 78’s will pick up some fish as they start heading deeper for the day. Dropshot rigs fished along steep walls and main-lake points in the five to twenty five foot depth range with C3 Baits Shimmy’s or Jobu’s in the Neptune Shad pattern are always productive. Focus on the steeper dropoffs to avoid the heavy moss that covers the flatter areas. Live Shad are providing explosive surface strikes throughout the day if you are inclined to chase the bigger baits down and get them in your livewell, not an easy task right now.
Striped Bass:
Surface boils in the Ski Arm around the island and up to the forebay buoy line have become more frequent, with big schools of six pound class fish slashing surface baits with aggression. Ghost Minnow pattern Lucky Craft Gunfish 100’s and Espetit 95’s in the White Flash pattern have been very productive. I add a #2 feathered treble hook to try and match-the-hatch with the smaller baitfish they’re feeding on.
Bluegill:
‘Gills are biting near overhanging green bushes that provide shade in the backs of coves like Dry Gulch, Hawks Nest and Utopia. A small piece of red worm or meal worm will get bit all day. Great fun for the kids as it is a very visual bite and easy to do.
