Castaic Lake Report 07/20/25

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

Bass fishing remained strong for the most part this week with good surface activity in the coves from 7:00 to 10:00. Bait Merchant 007 Riser Baits, Megabass Karashi’s and C3 Baits Flukensteins continue to dominate the bulk of the action, spot casting to the individual blowups or small boils. Once the sun gets up Lucky Craft Pointers in the 78 and 100 size take over as the fish sink out to the ten foot depth range. Dropshot rigs fished along steep walls and points in the five to twenty foot depth range with any of the C3 Baits or small finesse worms will keep rods bent during the day. Live Shad will elicit explosive surface strikes throughout the day if you are one of the few boats that are able to net them.

Striped Bass:

A few boils seen in the Ski Arm around the island towards the weekend, but they’re only lasting for a few minutes. There are big schools of six pound class fish along with some jumbos pushing the double-digit range. This bite is about to explode, which it almost always does in August.

Bluegill:

Smaller β€˜gills are biting near overhanging green bushes that provide shade in the backs of coves like Dry Gulch and Utopia. A small piece of red worm or a meal worm will get bit all day. Great fun for the kids as it is a very visual bite and easy to do.
