Castaic Lake Fishing Report 07/17/2022
Largemouth Bass:
The week started off slow for most anglers but picked up mid-week with the passing of the full moon. 5″ wacky-rigged Senkos, Dropshot and Carolina rigged C3 Baits Shimmys, Roboworms continue to get bit by fish in the one to two pound range with an uptick in the count of three to five pounders. There is a pretty good topwater bite in the morning on weightless Fluke Jr.’s fished along the bluff walls, rocky shorelines and main lake points. The best color for the Senko has been Natural Shad and just about any of the popular colors in the finesse plastics are working as well.
Striped Bass:
The surface boils continue with the smaller fish, but there are some big ones mixed in, as well as some big Largemouth Bass in some of the schools. Smaller Lucky Craft Gunfish and Sammy’s are getting the schoolies, with bigger versions of the same lures getting the attention of the occasional larger fish below them. Adding a white feathered treble hook to the surface baits will do double duty, as the bigger bait appeals to the larger fish and the feathered treble is matching the size of the smaller Shad being chased by the schoolies.
Water conditions:
Surface temp 78 – 82 degrees
Water clarity 5′ to 10′ in most areas
Minor algae bloom at the end of the Fish Arm
