Castaic Lake Fishing Report 03/23/25
Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
Warmer, drier weather has seen the lake transition into Spring as surface temps climb towards 60 degrees. Largemouth and Smallmouth averaging one to two pounds are in good numbers as well as some bigger females that are holding a little deeper, as the pre-spawn cycle continues. Most of the action is in the ten to twenty foot zone around main lake points, shoals, and bluff walls. C3 Baits Shimmy’s in the Neptune Shad pattern fished on the Carolina rig as well as a few crankbait and wacky rig fish are making up most of the fish counts. The water remains very clear so light line is essential in most presentations. Rocky areas facing the early Eastern sunrise are warming faster and are good places to start your search. It’s all about the water temp until they are done spawning.
Striped Bass:
Slow but showing signs of life as the baitfish are moving shallower every week. They are holding in the thirty foot zone on main-lake points. If you find them on the chew they will hit a vertically jigged Krocodile or flutter spoon. Rapala Ice Jigs are always worth a try as well.
Rainbow Trout:
A recent stocking has been great for shore anglers as the fish stay near the shore for a week or two. There are still a few fish roaming the East shoreline of the Ski Arm from the previous stocking that can be caught in water as shallow as two feet. They will hit just about any trout lure as well as dropshot finesse plastics while Bass fishing.
