A Little Flash Without Starting Over

A standard treble does its job without adding a separate moving blade. The Y-S21 BT brings that extra visual element to the hook itself: an elongated willow blade hangs below the treble on a built-in swivel. It is a useful option when you want to experiment with more flash on a familiar hard bait rather than replace the whole lure.

The tradeoff is extra hardware. A bladed hook can change a lure's balance, resistance and rise or sink behavior, especially on small or finely tuned baits. Test the modified lure beside the boat or bank before fishing it, and keep the original hooks if you want to return to the stock setup.

The Right Pick for a Hard-Bait Experiment

Consider these for bass hard baits with replaceable trebles, such as crankbaits, minnow-style plugs or lipless baits, where the hook and blade have enough room to move. A steady retrieve is a practical starting point for checking blade movement. Then try changes in speed or short pauses and watch whether the blade interferes with the hook, lure body or nearby hardware.

Start in open water or around sparse cover where exposed trebles are manageable. Sunlight can make blade flash easier to see; in stained water, treat the added flash as something to test rather than a guaranteed advantage. Size 8 is the smallest listed option, followed by size 6 and size 4. Use the original hook size as a starting point, not a guarantee of fit: overall hook dimensions and the blade's movement also matter. Make sure the blade clears the lure body and the other hook.

Use Halco Split Ring Pliers to open the lure's split ring and work the old hook off before fitting the replacement. Change one hook first so you can assess the effect, keeping fingers clear of the points. Inspect the ring for distortion and confirm that the new hook moves freely.

Will these fit every crankbait or jerkbait?

Can a bladed treble change a suspending lure's action?
Yes. Added hardware can affect balance and buoyancy. Test the bait in the water with your normal line and leader before relying on its original suspension behavior.

Should I replace both hooks at once?

The Gamakatsu Round Bend Treble Bronze Hooks are very sticky hooks.  They aren't the strongest hooks with only 1X strong wire, but the thin wire sticks better than a stronger hook.  

If you're fish are coming off once hooked, consider going to these and see the difference.  You may need to change your hook out more often because they get bent, but at least you landed the fish.
