 When fish are breaking the surface or just subsurface, the Shimano Current Sniper Sinking Stickbait is going to be deadly!  This sinking stickbait is perfect for when fish are feeding on the surface and uses superior finishes and stout 3X strong hooks and split rings.  There are several retrieval methods that can be used effectively on many different predator fish.  

This was previously known as the Coltsniper.

Subsurface walk-the-dog is a very effective method and creates the illusion of a fleeing baitfish.  This can be more easily created using a spinning setup like the Shimano Thunnus and Shimano Terez but conventional rods and reels may also be used. Moving the rod tip while winding the reel with short pauses will cuase the bait to move left and right.  It's very important to give the lure some slack after pulling it each time.  If slack isn't given after each pull, the lure will not have the line needed to glide momentarily before you pull it again.  Skipping the lure on the surface is also a technique that can invoke a strike. Cast as far as you can and don't let it sink out.  Wind back the lure as fast as you can so that it skips on the surface.

We are excited to use the Shimano Current Sniper Stickbait on yellowtail, tuna, calico bass and striper here in Southern California.  We are sure it will work for any agressive predator fish you have.  Ideally we would use a 8,000 to 12,000 size Shimano Thunus or Stella spinning reel and an 8' to 9' Shimano Terez or Ocea Plugger spinning rod.  Line class is going to depend on what you are fishing for but 50-80lb Power Pro with a 4-7 foot monofilament or fluorocarbon leader would be ideal.  The leader size will differ but 30-50lb line would be normal range for this type of fishing.  Using a split ring on the nose with a solid ring on the split ring would allow the lure to move correctly.  You can also tie a loop knot of your chose to allow lure movement.

JRI Custom Lures JRI-7 Surface Iron Jigs are a medium size surface iron, a great all around jig. The JRI-7 is virtually a smaller version of the JRI-4. A far casting jig and at a medium fast retrieve we have seen this jig get bit when others aren't.  The JRI-7 has a little faster action than the JRI-4 but not as fast as the others, but a formidable weapon to have in your arsenal. Very popular for local waters and around the Kelps. Many of Yellowtail, Calico Bass, Bonito, and Barracuda have fallen victim to JRI Custom Lures JRI-7 Surface Iron Jigs. The Halco Roosta Popper 135 is perfect for targeting game fish that are aggressively  attacking bait fish near or on the surface.  The hardware on these poppers is of the highest quality and will stand up to big fish like tuna, GT's, dorado, and peacock bass. They are best used with a heavy spinning rod and reel due to the higher inches of line retrieved per crank.  We prefer to have braided line with a short 3' top shot of monofilament or fluorocarbon.

While designed with a blooping style retrieve in mind, the Roosta Haymaker can be simply wound in at speed or trolled for excellent results.The recommended method of retrieval for best results is to point the rod tip at the lure, retrieve any slack line and firmly sweep the rod tip in a downward motion approximately 45 degrees. Allow the lure to rest for several seconds and if a fish hasn't taken the lure repeat as necessary.

Roosta Popper 135 Specs

The JRI Custom Lures JRI-3 Surface Iron Jigs are the widest kicking jig in the family. An excellent swim action with a very pronounced kick out to one side. It's during this kick out that triggers strikes from followers and non aggressive fish.  Also a great casting surface iron weighing in at 3.3 ounces and 6 inches long. JRI-3 seem to be most productive on a slow retrieve however conditions will determine that, gets bit on the medium retrieve as well. The Tady 9 is a thinner and more narrow version of the Tady A2 and Tady AA jigs.  This makes the jig fall faster due to less drag on the lure.  It also swims in a tighter pattern for when you need to burn it back when fish are the most active.  

Verticle: To work it vertically, cast it or drop it straight under the boat.  Let it sink to the desired depth which could range from a few feet to several dozen feet.  Put the reel in gear and wind it back with a fast retrieve.  

Horizontal:  Cast it as far as possible and let it sink for a second or two and wind it straight back to the boat with a  fast retrieve.  

YoYo:  Cast it or drop it straight under the boat, let it sink to the desired depth, and one line is taught and the reel is in gear, drop the rod tip and then lift the rod tip 3-4 feet.  Drop the rod tip again and repeat without winding the reel.  After a few minutes if you're not already bit, wind it up a few cranks and repeat.  

 There is no need to put any bait or scent on most Tady jigs, it's a reaction and if the bite is on, they will eat it.  Bait can actually impair the action of the jig so it's best just to tie straight to the ring on the iron.  We prefer throwing irons on 30# or 40# line in general but the size of the fish being caught, the size of your reel, and the weight of the jig all play a part in deciding what line to use.

Color and hook manufacturer varies on each lure and may not be exactly like the picture shows.  Scratches are common on all Tady Lures, they get scratched in transit to us and these scratches don't impact the ability to catch fish.
