Castaic Lake Fishing Report 10/27/24

There are basically two groups of fish. Some that are still chasing Shad and Minnows on the surface and others that are down around twenty feet keying in on the Shad schools that are migrating into the bigger coves from the main lake. Riser Baits, live Shad and small Flukes are catching the surface feeders while dropshot and Carolina rigged finesse plastics are scoring quality fish deeper.

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

A great week of fishing for both numbers and size. C3 Baits like the Shimmy and Ridgeback Reaper in the Neptune Shad color are putting some nice fish in the net for anglers working the dropoffs, walls and points leading into major coves. Next week’s forecast of North winds and air temps in the low 60’s might change the bite completely. Hopefully there will be some warmer days in the weeks ahead to continue the excellent Fall bite.

Striped Bass:

Surface boils have pretty much ended except for the occasional flurry here and there. Anglers utilizing reaction baits like umbrella rigs, KastMasters and Keitech Fat Swing Impact paddletails on jigheads are scoring some fish. Riser baits and live Shad are geting a few to come towards the surface from the twenty foot zone that they’re holding in. Trolling Yak flies on three to four colors of lead core is slowly gaining speed as the schools get into the bigger coves.
