Castaic Lake Fishing Report 10/04/24

Bass fishing was very steady for anglers finding the feeding schools that are moving into the bigger coves. Staying mobile and checking the main and secondary points is the best bet. The morning topwater action has been the focus of most anglers, as the fish and fishermen seem to dwindle as the sun gets high. Air temps over 100 were common most of the week.

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

Bass fishing was very steady for anglers finding the feeding schools that are moving into the bigger coves. Staying mobile and checking the main and secondary points is the best bet. The morning topwater action has been the focus of most anglers, as the fish and fishermen seem to dwindle as the sun gets high. Air temps over 100 were common most of the week. The average fish has gotten larger with a lot of fat, hard-fighting two to three pounders showing up in the counts. Lucky Craft Sammy 100’s and 007 size Riser Baits are still the weapons of choice.

Striped Bass:

Main-lake surface boils were still happening, mostly in the middle of the Ski Arm in and around Necktie Canyon. The buoy line at the end of the Ski Arm has been hit and miss but worth checking out. There are a few schools in the Fish Arm too, and they can be found near the entrance of major coves and occasionaly mid-lake. Birds and boats will show you where the action is. Lucky Craft Sammy 100’s, Espetit 95’s and 007 size Riser Baits continue to be the best lure choices. Use a heavy monofilament line or leader of 10 to 15 pound test to keep the baits skipping on the surface.
