Specifications

The Decoy Egg Snap is perfect for fishing reaction style baits.  There are multiple sizes so you can match the size of the snap to the size of the lure.  Egg snaps allow the bait to move more freely because the bend in the snap around the lure is more oval or egg shaped.  

This doesn't create as much friction as a snap that had a tighter bend.  They feature a cross lock design and are made of very strong steel wire.  Try them out, we think you'll see the difference.

• Match lb test to your target: 30–60 lb is ideal for king mackerel and barracuda; 90–135 lb for wahoo trolling; 170–250 lb for shark leaders where abrasion and bite resistance are critical.

FAQ

What's the difference between 1x7 and 1x3 wire construction?
1x7 wire uses seven individual strands twisted together, while 1x3 uses only three. The result is higher break strength, better kink resistance, and more natural lure action — all critical factors when targeting fast, toothy fish like wahoo and king mackerel.

How do I attach Surfstrand wire to my lure or hook?
AFW recommends using crimping sleeves with crimping pliers for the strongest, most reliable connection. You can also use a Figure 8 Knot for a quick, tool-free connection in the field.

Is Surfstrand suitable for freshwater fishing?
Yes — while Surfstrand is primarily designed for saltwater use, it's also popular for freshwater muskie and pike fishing where toothy fish regularly bite through mono or fluoro leaders.

The Sea Striker Billfisher Double Sleeves are great for attaching lures and hooks to heavy line without knots.  If crimped correctly, a sleeved line is stronger than a knot and has 100 percent breaking strength.  

You will notice on the line sizes below that there is no 100lb crimp.  It's because of the way that the sleeves are manufactured and aren't made at the 100lb diameter.  It is better to go with a little bigger crimp than a little smaller crimp, but they both will work.  

Another option is to use an aluminum sleeve since it's softer and has a greater tolerance to differing line sizes.  The The Sea Striker Billfisher Double Sleeves shown here are made of brass and are able to create a connection with a smaller profile.  Aluminum sleeves are longer so it comes into more contact with the line.  In the end, it's just personal preference as to what kind of sleeve you use.

The Storm Suspend Sticky Weight comes in strips and dots.  If you need to change the buoyancy of a bait to negative, these strips will do the trick.  You can simply add them to the belly of the bait where you need them.  

If you want more weight in one spot, you can stack them on top of each other.  They are flexible and really sticky so they will last for many casts.  If you want less weight, you can simply cut them with scissors or even tear them with your hands.  We like to use them on hard Swimbaits and crank baits to change them to a heavier sink.  

You can also wrap them around a hook to make it a weighted hook.  They stick to themselves allowing you to customize your lure.  Play around with the Storm Suspend Sticky Weights and see what you can do.

The Spro SB60 Swimbait Tail and Fin Replacement Kit is perfect for when a big fish takes a little extra.  We noticed that the swimbait will not swim correctly without these side fins and obviously won't swim good without the tail.  

The fins keel the bait so it can track properly and entice fish into striking.  We glue them on with clear gorilla glue and find it keeps them stuck on well.  Krazy glue will also work in a pinch but tends to come off over time.
