Don't just throw it and retrieve it at a slow rate. Bill Siemantel says to make a "directional change" to trigger bites. Try giving it a quick jerk before beginning your retrieve and make one or two additional quick jerks in the middle and the end of your cast to entice followers to strike. We like to fish this size on 8-12lb monofilament line with a soft tip rod. Don't work it too fast, sometimes a slow methodical walk the dog action will get them to bite much better than a faster retrieve. If the fish are super fired up, speed it up and then pause it for just a split second.
