The Mustad Ultra Point Treble Hook 3X Strong 36329NP-BN is packed with features to keep fish on. The Elite treble, Needle Point, chemically sharpened, Tempered, 3 extra strong, black nickel hook has what Mustad calls Opti-Angle. This means that the hook can be put on a lure and the hook can tuck into the lures bottom due to the configuration of the points on the hook. The Mustad Ultrapoint KVD Elite Treble Hooks feature 2X short shank and 1X strong wire. The 2X short shank means that it's shorter than a normal shank by 1 increment. For the sake of discussion, if you have a 1 inch long shank on a normal hook, the 2X short would be half of that or 1/2 inch long.
The 2 extra short shank eliminates hook tangling that can occur with long shank trebles. The shorter shank also opens the gap and adds clearance. Due to the wider gap, you can replace size 4 trebles with size 2 trebles to increase hook performance.

Owner Aki Twist Bait Hooks are the standard when it comes to fishing squid in Southern California. The long shank, offset point, and heavy gauge wire make this a big game hook that stands up to tough conditions. For a full size squid not cut, we follow Brandon Haywards recommendation of a 7/0.
Thread the hook through the squid 2-3 times and put it on a dropper loop or glow slider. We like to put the hook 3 feet from the weight on the dropper loop. For the glow sinker, let it slide all the way down to the hook.
We often use 1/4oz, 3/8oz, and 1/2oz sliders for white seabass and yellowtail. Try using the Billfishes Combi swivel for added security and bait action. This unique swivel allows the bait to move 360 degrees around your main line.
