The Dirty Jigs Pivot Point Football Jig Head is a unique and innovative jig design that maximizes the action of your soft plastic baits. By featuring two wire loops—one for a 60-degree line tie and the other connecting to a pivoting Gamakatsu SuperLine Offset EWG Hook—this jig allows for unmatched movement and lifelike presentation. When rigging a soft plastic bait such as a craw, creature, or worm, the bait has more freedom to float and move naturally in the water, increasing its effectiveness in attracting fish.
To ensure the best performance, it’s important to rig your bait so that it doesn't cover the hook eye. This allows the bait to move more freely and enhances the natural swimming action, which is key to enticing strikes.
If you're targeting bass or other species, this jig head is a fantastic choice to improve your chances of success with soft plastics. Have you used a similar jig design before, or are you looking to try something new?
The Sound That Bass Can't Ignore
The River2Sea Whopper Plopper 130 is one of the most iconic topwater lures ever made — and for good reason. That deep, hollow whopping sound produced by the rotating tail is unlike anything else on the water. Crawl it so slowly you can barely hear the tail, or rip it fast so it throws water like a swamp buggy. Either way, it gets bit. Cast it a mile, dial in your retrieve speed, and let the sound do the work.
Engineered to Run Perfect, Right Out of the Box
The Whopper Plopper's propeller-style tail is perfectly tuned from the factory and stays flexible and fish-catching forever. No tweaking, no tuning, no adjustments — just tie it on and go. The tail rotates smoothly across a wide range of retrieve speeds, producing alluring rumbles and multi-octave splashing that triggers strikes from bass, pike, musky, and stripers.
Why Standard Prop Baits Fall Short
Most prop baits are noisy at one speed and dead at another. The Whopper Plopper produces fish-catching sound and action from a dead-slow crawl all the way to a fast burn — giving you a versatile topwater that adapts to the mood of the fish. When bass are finicky, slow it down. When they're aggressive, speed it up. The Plopper works either way.
Built to Last, Built to Cast
Pre-rigged with two size #1 premium black nickel treble hooks, the Whopper Plopper 130 is ready to fish the moment it comes out of the package. The durable body handles rocks, wood, and hard-fighting fish without losing its action, and its aerodynamic profile launches exceptionally long casts for a topwater of its size — covering more water and reaching fish that other lures can't.
The Right Pick If...
- You want a topwater that works at any retrieve speed
- You're targeting largemouth, smallmouth, pike, musky, or striped bass
- You need a lure that casts far and covers open water efficiently
- Walking baits and poppers aren't triggering strikes
- You want a proven, tournament-tested topwater with a massive color selection
Best Retrieve Techniques
- Slow Crawl: Barely-there retrieve — just enough to keep the tail ticking. Deadly in calm conditions and post-spawn
- Medium Steady: The bread-and-butter retrieve — consistent tail rotation with a rhythmic whopping sound
- Fast Burn: Rip it across the surface throwing water — triggers reaction strikes from aggressive fish
- Stop and Go: Vary your retrieve speed to create an erratic, fleeing-baitfish action
Best Conditions
- Calm to lightly choppy surface — the tail sound carries best in calmer water
- Low-light periods — early morning and late evening when bass are most active on top
- Post-spawn through fall when bass are chasing baitfish on the surface
- Summer feeding windows over open flats, points, and submerged structure
- Any body of water where big fish are looking up — lakes, reservoirs, rivers, ponds
Best For
- Species: Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Pike, Musky, Striped Bass
- Techniques: Slow roll, medium steady retrieve, fast burn, stop-and-go
- Conditions: Calm to choppy surface, low-light, post-spawn, summer and fall feeding windows
- Water: Lakes, reservoirs, rivers, ponds — anywhere big fish are looking up
Key Features
- Propeller-style rotating tail creates powerful surface commotion
- Produces deep, hollow whopping sound across all retrieve speeds
- Pre-rigged with 2x size #1 premium black nickel treble hooks
- Perfectly tuned tail — no adjustments needed, stays flexible forever
- Exceptional casting distance for a topwater of its size

Tackle Express Tips
- Start Slow, Speed Up: Begin your retrieve at a slow crawl and gradually increase speed until you find the cadence the fish want that day. The Plopper produces at every speed — let the fish tell you what they want.
- Match the Color to Forage: In shad-heavy lakes, go with Phantom Shad, Chubby, or Crystal Minnow. In perch or bluegill fisheries, try Perch or Munky Butt. In stained water, Blue Blood and Rat Ta Tat create the best silhouette.
- Use a Loop Knot: A loop knot (like a Rapala knot) gives the Whopper Plopper maximum freedom of movement and enhances the tail action, especially at slower retrieve speeds.
FAQ
What rod and line setup works best with the Whopper Plopper 130?
A medium-heavy 7'–7'6" casting rod with 30–50 lb braided line is ideal. Braid floats and keeps the lure riding high on the surface, while the sensitivity lets you feel the tail action and detect any change in retrieve speed.
How do I know if the tail is tuned correctly?
The tail should rotate freely and consistently at slow retrieve speeds. If it's not spinning, check for debris caught in the tail joint. The Whopper Plopper comes factory-tuned and rarely needs adjustment.
Can I use the Whopper Plopper 130 for pike and musky?
Absolutely. The 5 in, 1 3/8 oz profile is a great pike and musky topwater, especially in summer when fish are shallow and aggressive. Upgrade to heavier treble hooks if you're specifically targeting large musky.

Berkley Powerbait Atomic Teasers are ideal for trout, panfish or crappie. Cut tentacles and trout worm provide subtle fish attracting action. Pre-rigged and ready to fish. These mini jigs catch anything including trout, crappie, bluegill, shell crackers, sunfish, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and stripers.
It mimics a baitfish or larva and appears to be an easy meal for most fish. The small worm like tail ads more attractant but you can pull it off if you'd like. The consistent colors and interesting patterns will entice most fish to strike aggressively. The hooks small diameter and sharp point make hooking up consistent.
The way we fish them is either on a bobber with a 2-3' leader or tie it directly to the line. 2-4lb line is key and we like to use fluorocarbon like Seaguar Invisx or Berkley Vanish. Simply cast it out, let it sink for a few seconds, and retrieve it very very slowly. You can set the hook or wind the reel faster when you get bit. A reel in the 500, 750, or 1000 size would be best and a light action trout rod for cast-ability and action when fighting the fish.
Put more fish on the stringer with the Berkley Powerbait Atomic Teasers.
The PL-68 is the end of the line — 9.8 oz and 7 1/2 inches, the heaviest and by a clear margin the longest iron Salas makes. Nothing else in the lineup comes within an inch of it. This is the jig you bring when depth, current, or the size of the fish beats everything else in your bag.
Two things happen when you go this big. The obvious one is that it gets down and stays down: at 9.8 oz in a relatively narrow 1 1/8" body, the PL-68 cuts current and holds vertical where an 8.1 oz 7X Heavy starts sliding. The less obvious one is profile. That extra length is a genuinely bigger silhouette in the water, which matters when fish are eating full-size mackerel or larger forage — you are matching a bigger meal, not just fishing deeper.
This is a specialist. On a calm day over a local high spot it is more jig than the situation calls for, and you will wear yourself out cranking it. Bring it for the deep banks, the hard current, and the long-range trips where the alternative is not reaching the fish at all.
Every PL-68 is hand-cast and hand-painted in Southern California, so each one comes out slightly different. Small variations in finish and weight are normal and expected.
Where the PL-68 shines
- Deep banks and offshore high spots where lighter irons never reach the zone
- Hard current that sweeps 6–8 oz jigs off vertical
- Long-range trips and extended offshore runs
- Deep-holding tuna that will chase a fast-cranked iron
- Trophy yellowtail on structure that demands heavy tackle
- Days when fish are on larger forage and a bigger profile matters
Which Salas iron should you throw?
The PL-68 is the heaviest and longest iron in the line. If you are not fighting depth or current, one of the lighter yo-yo irons will fish better simply because you can work it longer.
| Model | Weight | Body L × W | Style |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7X Jr | 2.1 oz | 5 3/8" × 1" | Surface iron |
| O Pop | 3.2 oz | 6 1/8" × 1 3/8" | Surface iron / popper |
| 7X Light | 3.5 oz | 6 3/8" × 1 1/8" | Surface iron |
| 6X Jr Heavy | 4.8 oz | 4 5/8" × 1" | Yo-yo |
| 7X Jr Heavy | 4.8 oz | 5 3/8" × 1" | Yo-yo |
| 6X Heavy | 6.4 oz | 6" × 1 1/4" | Yo-yo |
| 7X Heavy | 8.1 oz | 6 3/8" × 1 1/8" | Yo-yo |
| PL-68 Heavy (this jig) | 9.8 oz | 7 1/2" × 1 1/8" | Yo-yo |
Width is measured at the belly, the jig’s widest point. Every Salas iron is hand-cast and hand-painted, so weights and dimensions vary slightly between units.
PL-68 or 7X Heavy?
The 7X Heavy is 8.1 oz in a 6 3/8" body — not far behind on weight, but a meaningfully smaller profile. The PL-68 adds 1.7 oz and a full inch of length. If your problem is purely depth, the 7X Heavy handles most of it. If your problem is depth and current, or the fish are on big bait, the PL-68 is the honest answer. Most anglers buy the 7X Heavy first and add the PL-68 for long-range and extreme days.

Options, hooks, and pricing
Salas irons are typically rigged with a heavy-duty treble hook. Some options ship with a single hook instead — on the PL-68, those options say so in the option name. Pricing varies between configurations, so check the option menu above this description for what is current.
| Option | Finish | Hook |
|---|---|---|
| Blue White | Standard hand-painted | Heavy-duty treble |
| Blue Mackerel | Standard hand-painted | Heavy-duty treble |
| Scrambled Egg | Standard hand-painted | Heavy-duty treble |
| Rockfish | Standard hand-painted | Heavy-duty treble |
| Glow White | Glow finish, priced separately | Heavy-duty treble |
| Blue White w/ Single Tuna Hook | Blue White hand-painted | Single tuna hook, priced separately |
| Glow White w/ Single Tuna Hook | Glow finish | Single tuna hook, priced separately |
Anglers pick a single hook for easier unhooking, less damage to fish they intend to release, and fewer tangles in the rail on a crowded boat. A treble gives more points of contact on a short-striking fish. Neither is universally better — it comes down to how and where you fish.
Picking a color
The PL-68 usually fishes deep, and down there light is scarce. Contrast and glow matter more than fine detail.
| Conditions | Start here | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Deepest drops, dirty water, low light | Glow White | Stays visible where painted finishes stop reading |
| General deep-water yellowtail | Scrambled Egg | The classic high-contrast yo-yo color |
| Sardines and mackerel on the meter | Blue White, Blue Mackerel | Baitfish tones matching what the fish are eating |
| Fishing hard bottom and rocky structure | Rockfish | Matches bottom-dwelling forage over reef and hard structure |
Color availability changes constantly. Check the option menu above this description for what we can ship right now.
How to fish it
Drop it straight down — to the bottom, or to the depth where you are marking fish. The moment it lands, wind as fast as you can turn the handle and keep winding all the way to the boat. Do not pump the rod. Speed triggers the bite, and most strikes come partway up rather than at the bottom.
At 9.8 oz you get down quickly even in current, which is the whole reason to fish it. The tradeoff is real: cranking this weight repeatedly is hard work, and most anglers get fewer drops per hour with it than with a 6X Heavy. Pick your moments — drop it when you are marking fish rather than searching blind.
Recommended gear
- Rod: Heavy fast-taper jig rod rated for 8–12 oz, with the backbone to turn fish off deep structure
- Reel: High-speed conventional, 6:1 or faster, with the capacity and cranking power for deep drops
- Line: 50–80 lb depending on depth, current, and how heavy the structure is
- Leader: 50–60 lb fluorocarbon; go heavier around rock and hard structure
Pro tips from the shop
- Do not fish it blind. Drop it on marks. At this weight you get a limited number of good drops before you are gassed.
- Undersized gear ruins it. A rod that will not handle 9.8 oz makes every drop a fight with your own tackle.
- Watch your line on the drop. At this weight fish frequently eat it falling, and the tell is line going slack early.
- Glow finishes benefit from a few seconds under a light before the drop.
- If you fish a crowded rail or release a lot of fish, the single tuna hook options are worth the difference.
Common mistakes
- Buying it as your first yo-yo iron. Start with a 4.8 or 6.4 oz jig. The PL-68 is a specialist for depth and current, not a general-purpose iron.
- Fishing it in moderate depth. It will catch fish, but a lighter iron works better and you will last longer.
- Winding too slowly. Yo-yo is a speed technique. If your arm is not tired, you are going too slow.
- Pumping the rod. Wind steadily with the rod low. Pumping creates slack and kills the action.
- Packing it away wet. Rinse in fresh water and dry it fully before it goes back in the bag.
Frequently asked questions
Salas irons are typically rigged with a heavy-duty treble hook. On the PL-68, the two options named “w/ Single Tuna Hook” come with a single tuna hook instead and are priced separately. Select the configuration you want by name in the option menu above. A single tuna hook is easier to remove, does less damage to fish you plan to release, and causes fewer tangles on a crowded rail. A treble offers more points of contact on a fish that strikes short. Pick based on how you fish rather than assuming one is better. Yes. At 9.8 oz it is the heaviest, and at 7 1/2" it is also the longest. The next step down is the 7X Heavy at 8.1 oz and 6 3/8". If your problem is depth alone, the 7X Heavy at 8.1 oz handles most of it. The PL-68 adds weight for hard current and a substantially longer profile for bigger forage. Most anglers own the 7X Heavy first and add the PL-68 for long-range and extreme conditions. The Glow White finish and the single tuna hook configurations are priced separately from the standard hand-painted colors. Check the option menu above for current pricing on each. A heavy fast-taper jig rod rated for 8–12 oz, a high-speed conventional reel at 6:1 or faster, and 50–80 lb line depending on depth and structure. Undersized gear makes this weight miserable to fish. No, but that is where it earns its keep. Any time depth or current beats your other irons — including local deep banks on a hard tide — the PL-68 is the tool. No. Each one is hand-cast and hand-painted, so weight, dimensions, and paint detail vary slightly from jig to jig. That variation is part of the product, not a defect. What hook does it come with?

Stick Jacket Casting rod sleeves work great for protecting your rod from scratches, broken guides, and tangles. The sleeve slips over your rod with ease and keeps the line from catching on other rods.
It acts like a trap and hold tight to the rod until you want to take it off. The brass grommet on the end allows you to hang it up on the wall without falling out (without the reel.)
The jacket falls short of covering the entire rod, it usually stops short enough to have a lure tied on and attached to the hook keeper without hanging up. We recommend not putting a lure on the guides, this will result in snagging on the Stick Jacket.
For rods up to 7-1/2' Long and 3-7/8" round. Mainly freshwater rods or saltwater inshore rods.

The Lead Masters Glow Torpedo Sinker is a glow-painted torpedo-shaped sinker purpose-built for bottom fishing rigs where a luminescent weight provides a visibility advantage in low-light and deep water conditions. The high-intensity glow paint absorbs light easily and glows for a long time — among the best glow paint performance in the torpedo sinker category. The torpedo shape minimizes water resistance and drag in current, allowing the sinker to reach the bottom faster and hold position more effectively than round or bank sinkers of the same weight. Compatible with dropper loop, reverse dropper loop, rubber band rig, and squid catcher bottom setups. Available in 2–16 oz.
Note: Additional shipping charges may apply for larger sizes.
Key Features
- High-Intensity Glow Paint — Long-Lasting & Easy Charging — The glow paint on the Lead Masters Glow Torpedo Sinker absorbs light quickly and emits a long-lasting, high-intensity glow that is visible to fish in low-light conditions, at depth, and in turbid water; charge the sinker under a UV light or flashlight before each drop for maximum glow intensity; the glow sinker is most effective during night fishing for White Seabass, Rockfish, and other species that are active in low-light conditions and respond to luminescent attractors near the bait.
- Torpedo Shape — Low Drag, Fast Drop — The streamlined torpedo profile minimizes water resistance and drag in current compared to round, bank, or pyramid sinkers; the torpedo shape allows the sinker to cut through the water column faster and reach the bottom more efficiently in strong current conditions; less drag also means the sinker holds bottom position more effectively without being swept off the target zone by current.
- Versatile Rig Compatibility — Compatible with the most common bottom fishing rig configurations: dropper loop (sinker on the terminal end, hooks on dropper loops above), reverse dropper loop (hooks below the sinker), rubber band rig (sinker attached via rubber band for breakaway on snags), and squid catcher bottom weight (sinker on the bottom of a multi-hook squid catcher rig); the torpedo shape threads easily onto rig line and swivel connections.
- Wide Weight Range — 2 oz to 16 oz — Eight weight options from 2 oz to 16 oz cover a wide range of depth and current conditions; lighter weights (2–4 oz) for moderate depth and current, mid weights (6–8 oz) for deeper water and stronger current, and heavy weights (10–16 oz) for deep water, maximum current, and offshore bottom fishing applications.
- Pack Count by Size — 2–6 oz: 2 per pack. 8–16 oz: 1 per pack.
Size & Pack Count Guide
| Weight | Pack Count | Best Application |
|---|---|---|
| 2 oz | 2-pack | Shallow to mid-depth, light to moderate current, inshore bottom rigs |
| 3 oz | 2-pack | Mid-depth, moderate current, versatile inshore bottom fishing |
| 4 oz | 2-pack | Deeper water, stronger current, nearshore bottom rigs |
| 6 oz | 2-pack | Deep nearshore, heavy current, squid catcher rigs |
| 8 oz | 1-pack | Deep water, very strong current, offshore bottom rigs |
| 10 oz | 1-pack | Deep offshore, maximum current, large bottom rigs |
| 12 oz | 1-pack | Offshore deep drop, extreme current, heavy bottom fishing |
| 16 oz | 1-pack | Maximum depth and current, offshore deep drop applications |
Best For
- White Seabass — Night Fishing Squid Catcher Rig — The glow torpedo sinker is a proven bottom weight for squid catcher rigs targeting White Seabass during night fishing; the glow sinker at the bottom of the squid catcher rig provides a luminescent attractor that draws White Seabass toward the rig in low-light conditions; charge the sinker before each drop for maximum glow intensity.
- Dropper Loop & Reverse Dropper Loop Rigs — The torpedo shape threads easily onto dropper loop rigs for Rockfish, Lingcod, and other bottom species; the glow paint provides an additional attractor element near the bait that can trigger strikes from fish that are attracted to the glow before committing to the bait.
- Rubber Band Rig — Snag-Resistant Bottom Fishing — The torpedo sinker attached via rubber band on a rubber band rig allows the sinker to break away on snags, saving the rest of the rig; the glow paint remains effective even when the sinker is rigged on a rubber band breakaway connection.
- Deep Water & Strong Current — Heavier weights (8–16 oz) for deep water and strong current conditions where lighter sinkers cannot reach the bottom or hold position; the torpedo shape is particularly effective in strong current where a round or bank sinker of the same weight would be swept off the target zone.
