Tactical Underwater Color: In shallow water, the vibrant red color is highly visible to the angler for strike detection. However, red is the first color to fade in the water spectrum; at depths of 14 feet or more, the line transitions to a neutral gray tone that blends into the background, making it less visible to fish.
-
Enhanced Body Technology (EBT): This proprietary process creates a structurally superior line that is rounder and smoother. It reduces friction through rod guides, allowing for longer, quieter casts and minimizing wind knots or spool burying.
-
Extreme Sensitivity: With near-zero stretch, this line provides an incredible feel for even the lightest nibbles, ensuring instant hook-setting power and a direct connection to your lure.
-
High Strength-to-Diameter: Constructed from 100% Spectra fiber, which is 10 times stronger than steel, this line allows you to pack more strength onto smaller, more compact reels.
Gamakatsu Split Shot, Drop Shot Hooks have the right bend to make the bait presentation at the right angle. The preferred knot is the palomar but make sure you take your tag line and run it through the eye of the hook to finish the knot.
We like this hook because it's very sharp and has the perfect angle for drop shot rigs and split shot rigs. The wire is thin so hookups are solid, allowing you to get the fish in. Even though they are thin, they are still pretty tough considering the wire size. There are 6 hooks per pack but we also have bulk packs for a better value.
Ideal for fishing Swimming Senkos, swimbaits, flukes, and other small-profile soft plastics, the Owner Weighted TwistLock Light Hook not only helps "swim" a rigged bait down into the strike zone, it also helps increase casting distance. The weight is positioned low on the shank to provide a "keel" effect so that baits rigged weedless-style will swim naturally.
Owner's unique Centering-Pin Spring (CPS) allows baits to be "permanently" secured by inserting the center pin and screwing the TwistLock coil spring into the nose of the bait. Also featuring Owner's Super Needle Point construction, X-Strong forging, and a 30-degree eye-bend with an open gap, the Owner Weighted TwistLock Light Hook serves up quality hooksets, excellent rigging, and maximum fish penetration.

The Jackall Pompadour topwater wake bait features two unique metal wings that, upon casting, tuck away tight to the body for those long casts. Once the lure hits the water and you begin the retrieve, the metal wings open up creating a very unique wobble and a huge wake.
On the rear of the bait there is a pivoting propeller that slides back and forth creating a deep gurgling sound and leaving a tantalizing trail of bubbles. This, combined with the metal wings and the bulky body of the bait means that this lure displaces A LOT of water and will call fish up from even the deepest depths.
The Jackall Pompadour is sure to be a killer during those summertime night tournaments.

The all new Shimano Armajoint 190 Slow Float Flash Boost Swimbaits solve the challenges of casting a big jointed swimbait in search of trophy fish. Lure engineers leverage Shimano's proprietary Arma-Boost technology to significantly increase casting distance and accuracy by reducing unnecessary air resistance and the chances of the lure spinning during flight. As the angler casts the lure, Arma Boost technology facilitates the lure to disconnect from an internal magnet and forces the body to fold into its compact shape. Once the lure hits the water, the lure's body reengages with the magnet to create a smooth and natural swimming action.
The Shimano Armajoint 190SF is a versatile lure that can be retrieved fast or slow, enabling anglers to vary their retrieve depending on the situation. The bait will normally swim in an S-pattern, but the bait will not flare out when stopped due to the fold in its body. Anglers can slow down the receive and pause the to capitalize on the lure's natural slow-rising action. ARMAJOINT also features Shimano's proprietary FLASH BOOST technology that constantly emits a fish-attracting flash during the retrieve — even on the pause — by suspending reflective foil on micro springs to mimic the flashing behavior of an injured baitfish. Designed with purpose by leveraging innovation and technology and improving angler performance while drawing strikes from tournament-winning bass.
ROF: Slow Float
Length: 190mm (7.48in.)
Weight: 53g (1 7/8oz)
Features:
- Arma Boost to increase a lure's casting distance by folding a jointed lure into a compact shape, reducing air resistance and minimizing the chances of the lure spinning during flight.
- Flash Boost suspends reflective foil on micro springs within the clear section of the lure body and provides an action designed to mimic the movements and flashing behavior of an injured baitfish.
- Scale Boost capitalizes on composite-pitch holograms to increase the amount and complexity of light reflected through the water.
Roboworm Gamakatsu ReBarb Worm Hooks are built around a single defining feature: a plastic barb on the shank that prevents the worm from sliding down the hook after the cast. Cast after cast, the worm stays in the perfect position on the hook — no re-rigging, no worm bunching at the bend. The thin wire gauge sets the hook easily on light line, and the barb and bend geometry keep fish on the hook through the fight. Effective for plastic worms and live worms on Carolina rigs, weedless drop shots, Texas rigs, and more. Available in Aberdeen, Light Wire, and Medium Wire styles across 9 size options.
Key Features
- Plastic Barb on the Shank — Prevents Worm Slip — The ReBarb’s defining feature is a small plastic barb positioned on the shank that grips the worm and prevents it from sliding down toward the bend during the cast and retrieve; the barb keeps the worm in the correct rigging position cast after cast, eliminating the need to re-rig after every few casts; works with both soft plastic worms and live worms.
- Thin Wire Gauge — Easy Hooksets on Light Line — The light and medium wire options are designed for finesse applications where thin wire is needed for easy hooksets on light fluorocarbon and monofilament line; the thin wire penetrates the fish’s mouth more easily than a heavy wire hook on the same hookset force, making it ideal for drop shot, shaky head, and finesse Texas rig applications where light line is standard.
- Barb & Bend Geometry — Keeps Fish On — The hook’s barb and bend geometry are designed to keep fish on the hook through the fight; the barb prevents the hook from backing out during head shakes and the bend geometry maintains consistent hook pressure throughout the fight.
- Gamakatsu Quality — Needle-Sharp Out of the Pack — Made by Gamakatsu, known for needle-sharp hooks that penetrate easily and maintain their edge through extended use.

Most topwater baits make you choose: pop or walk. The Gunfish 117 has a cupped, concave face that throws water like a popper and a slim tapered body that walks tight side-to-side. Same cast, both actions, decided by what your rod tip does.
Short version: 4-1/2" pencil popper, 3/5 oz, floating, three treble hooks. Built for distance and for pulling fish up out of heavy cover.
Why the 117 Casts Further
Lucky Craft gave this size a thicker taper through the rear than the smaller Gunfish models. More mass behind the center means the bait carries better on the cast and tracks straighter in the air — which matters when fish are boiling forty feet past where you can reach.
That's the whole argument for the 117 over a 95 or a 115: it isn't just a bigger profile, it's a longer cast at the same effort.
Where It Earns Its Keep
- Schooling fish. When they come up out of range, the extra distance is the difference between a cast and a wish.
- Pulling fish from deep cover — brushpiles, cane piles, and standing timber. The concave face throws enough water to call fish up off structure.
- Blueback herring water. Lucky Craft calls this out specifically, and the long slim profile is why — it matches a herring better than a fatter walking bait.
- Open water search. Distance plus a bait that both pops and walks lets you cover a bank fast and change the message without changing lures.
How to Work It
To walk it: short, rhythmic twitches into slack line. The bait needs slack to turn — a tight line drives it straight and kills the side-to-side.
To pop it: harder, sharper snaps. The cupped mouth grabs water and throws it. Use this when fish are deep in cover or the surface has chop on it and you need to be louder.
Mix them. Two walks, a pop, a pause. The pause is not dead time — it floats, so it holds position in the strike zone, and a lot of fish eat it sitting still.
Three Trebles — What That Changes
The 117 carries three trebles: #5, #5, and #4. That's a hooking advantage on a bait fish tend to slash at rather than eat cleanly, and it's the reason short strikes convert more often on this size than on two-hook topwaters.
It also means more hardware to keep track of. Check that hooks aren't fouled on the body before you cast, and use a rod with a forgiving tip — three sets of trebles in a fish will find a way out if you horse it.
Standard and Limited Run Colors
Lucky Craft splits the Gunfish 117 lineup into standard colors and limited-run colors. Three of the four we carry are limited run — Aurora Black, Ghost Minnow, and MS American Shad. When they're gone, they're not automatically coming back.
| Color | Run | When to fish it |
|---|---|---|
| Chartreuse Shad | Standard | Stained water and low light — visible without being loud. |
| Ghost Minnow | Limited | Clear water and pressured fish — the subtlest of the four. |
| Aurora Black | Limited | Bright sky and tough bites — silhouettes hard from below. |
| MS American Shad | Limited | Shad and herring forage — a Migi Special finish with more depth than a flat paint job. |
Fishing It Around Santa Clarita
The topwater window on the local lakes moves week to week, and a long-casting bait earns its money on the days stripers are boiling out of reach. We publish Castaic Lake fishing reports with current conditions — worth reading before you commit a morning to the surface.
Recommended Gear
- Rod: medium to medium-heavy, moderate action, 7' or longer. Length helps the cast; a forgiving tip keeps three sets of trebles in the fish.
- Line: braid to a fluorocarbon or mono leader. Braid moves the bait; the leader gives you abrasion resistance around cover.
- Avoid heavy fluorocarbon straight through — it sinks and pulls the nose down, working against the float and the walk.
Pro Tips from the Tackle Express Crew
- Twitch into slack, not into tension. The single thing that separates people who can make a pencil popper walk from people who can't.
- Wait to feel weight before you set. Setting on the splash pulls it out of the fish's mouth. This costs more topwater fish than anything else.
- Use the pause after a miss. It floats. Let it sit — fish come back for a bait that's stopped far more often than for one that ran.
- Check the trebles for fouling. Three hooks on a slim body will tangle on themselves, and a fouled bait won't walk at all.
Common Mistakes
- Fishing it on a tight line. The bait needs slack to turn.
- Only popping it, or only walking it. You bought both actions. Mix them until something answers.
- Too stiff a rod. Costs you fish on every strike.
- Setting on sight. Wait for the weight.

Frequently Asked Questions
How big is the Gunfish 117?
4-1/2 inches (117mm) and 3/5 oz (19 grams). The number in the name is the length in millimetres.
How many hooks does it have?
Three trebles — two #5 and one #4.
Does it pop or walk?
Both. Sharp snaps make the cupped face throw water; rhythmic twitches into slack line make it walk tight side-to-side.
Does it float?
Yes. It holds position on the pause, which is where a lot of the bites come from.
117 or 115NF — what's the difference?
Different models, not just different sizes. The 117 is a pencil popper with three trebles and a thicker rear taper for casting distance. The NF models are the no-feather versions of their respective sizes.
Why does it cast so well?
The rear taper is thicker than on the smaller Gunfish sizes, so more mass sits behind the center and the bait carries and tracks straighter in the air.
What rod and line?
Medium to medium-heavy with a moderate action, 7' or longer. Braid to a fluorocarbon or mono leader; avoid heavy fluorocarbon straight through.
Are these colors coming back?
Aurora Black, Ghost Minnow, and MS American Shad are limited-run colors on Lucky Craft's list. Chartreuse Shad is standard. Call the shop and we'll tell you what's inbound.

The Lure That Won Lake Oneida
The SPRO Dean Rojas Bronzeye Popper Frog 60 is the exact lure Dean Rojas used to win the BASS Elite Series tournament at Lake Oneida — and it's been a go-to topwater weapon for bass anglers ever since. Where a standard walking frog gets ignored, the Popper's cupped mouth blasts water and sound on every twitch, calling bass up from deep in the slop. This is the frog you reach for when they won't come to anything else.
Sound That Triggers Strikes
The Bronzeye Popper's cupped face creates a loud, aggressive pop on each rod twitch — displacing water and sending vibration through the surface that bass can feel from yards away. Paired with the soft hollow body that collapses on the hookset, and the specially designed Gamakatsu 3/0 EWG Double Frog Hooks, this bait is built to draw the strike and seal the deal.
Why Walking Frogs Miss the Bite
On pressured lakes or in low-visibility conditions, bass often ignore a walking frog that slides silently across the surface. The Popper changes the equation — its aggressive sound and water displacement triggers reaction strikes from fish that have seen every other topwater bait in the box. When the walking frog stops working, tie on the Popper.
Weedless Through the Worst Cover
The Gamakatsu hooks ride point-up against the soft body, making the Bronzeye Popper virtually snag-free through lily pads, hydrilla mats, and emergent vegetation. Fish it through the nastiest cover on the lake with confidence — and when a bass blows up on it, the body collapses instantly for a solid, deep hookset.
The Right Pick If...
- Walking frogs are getting ignored or short-struck
- You're fishing pressured water where bass have seen everything
- You want a frog that creates noise and surface disturbance
- You're targeting bass in lily pads, hydrilla, or open-water slop
- You want a tournament-proven bait with a proven color lineup
Best Frog Fishing Techniques
- Pop and Pause: Short, sharp rod twitches to pop water, then let it sit — the pause is when most strikes happen
- Pop and Walk: Alternate pops with side-to-side walking action for a more erratic, aggressive presentation
- Dead Sticking: Cast over a mat pocket, pop once, and let it sit motionless — deadly in post-spawn
- Burning: Fast retrieve with rapid pops across open water to trigger reaction strikes
Best Conditions
- Summer and early fall when bass are shallow and aggressive
- Pressured lakes where bass have seen too many walking frogs
- Overcast days and low-light periods — early morning and late evening
- Heavy cover: lily pad mats, hydrilla, duckweed, and emergent vegetation
- Warm water temps above 65°F when topwater activity peaks
Best For
- Species: Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Pike
- Techniques: Topwater Popping, Frog Fishing, Heavy Cover, Open Water
- Conditions: Warm water, heavy vegetation, low-light, pressured fisheries
Key Features

Tackle Express Tips
- Pause After the Pop: The strike almost always comes on the pause, not the pop. Twitch, pop, then let it sit for 2–3 seconds before moving it again — especially over mat pockets.
- Match Sound to Conditions: On calm, glassy water the pop carries far — use a subtle pop-and-pause. On choppy or windy days, pop more aggressively to cut through surface noise.
- Wait for the Weight: Don't set the hook on the explosion — wait until you feel the fish pulling before sweeping hard to the side. Premature hooksets are the #1 reason anglers miss frog fish.
FAQ
What rod setup works best with the Bronzeye Popper Frog 60?
A medium-heavy to heavy 7'–7'6" baitcasting rod with 50–65 lb braided line is ideal. The braid gives you the sensitivity to feel the strike and the power to pull fish from heavy cover.
How is the Popper Frog different from the Bronzeye Frog 65?
The Bronzeye Frog 65 is a walking frog — it slides side-to-side on the surface. The Popper has a cupped mouth that blasts water and creates a loud popping sound on each twitch, making it more aggressive and effective on pressured fish or in low-visibility conditions.
Is the Bronzeye Popper weedless?
Yes. The Gamakatsu 3/0 hooks ride point-up against the soft body, making it virtually snag-free through lily pads, hydrilla, and other dense vegetation.
Why Buy the Yamamoto Uni?
There's nothing else like it in the water. The Yamamoto Uni is an urchin-inspired finesse soft plastic with bulbed appendages that quiver and shimmy on the fall with zero angler input — creating a lifelike, pulsating action that triggers strikes from bass that have seen every other bait in the box. When finesse fishing demands something truly different, the Uni delivers.
Main Use & Benefit
A specialty finesse soft plastic designed to trigger strikes from pressured largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass through its unique urchin-style appendages that create natural quivering and shimmying action on the fall and at rest. Sold 1 per pack at $16.55.
Problem It Solves
When bass have seen every Senko, drop shot worm, and creature bait in the lake, they stop responding to familiar profiles. The Uni's completely unique silhouette and multi-appendage action presents something fish haven't encountered before — breaking through lockjaw in clear water, post-frontal conditions, and heavily pressured fisheries.
Advantages
- ✅ Completely unique urchin-style profile — unlike anything else in pressured waters
- ✅ Bulbed appendages quiver and pulse with zero angler input on the fall
- ✅ Deadly on drop shot, free rig, and Neko — versatile finesse presentations
- ✅ Yamamoto's proven salted formula for natural feel and controlled fall rate
- ✅ 8 proven color patterns matched to real forage
- ⚠️ Specialty finesse bait — not designed for power fishing, heavy cover, or reaction presentations
- ⚠️ Sold 1 per pack — premium price point reflects the unique design and material
When to Choose It
Reach for the Yamamoto Uni when bass are post-frontal and lock-jawed, you're fishing clear or ultra-pressured water, standard finesse baits are getting ignored, or you need a completely different profile to break through a tough bite. It's a specialist tool — not an everyday bait, but a game-changer when conditions call for it.
Best Fishing Techniques
- Drop Shot — nose-hook through the central body with a #1 or #2 octopus hook, 12–24" above a 1/8–3/8 oz weight; gentle rod tip shakes make the appendages pulsate without moving the weight
- Free Rig — Texas-style nose hook with a sliding sinker for natural gliding movement over rocks, sparse cover, and transition areas; the weight slides freely, letting the Uni shimmy on the fall
- Neko Rig — nail weight in the nose for a head-down quiver on the bottom; the appendages flutter naturally on the pause
- Wacky Rig — hook through the central body for maximum appendage flutter on the fall around docks and laydowns
- Shaky Head / Jighead — thread onto a light jighead for a stand-up presentation on hard bottom with subtle appendage movement on the shake
Best Conditions
- Clear to lightly stained water (visibility 2ft+)
- Post-frontal high pressure and slow bite days
- Heavily pressured tournament lakes where fish have seen everything
- Deep summer finesse fishing (15–40ft) over structure
- Calm, windless conditions where subtle action shines

Tackle Express Tips
- Let it fall on slack line — The Uni's best action happens on a completely slack line. After casting, close the bail and watch your line — don't reel until the bait reaches bottom. The appendages do all the work on the fall.
- Go natural in clear water — Green Pumpkin (#297) and Watermelon Red (#208) are your top clear-water picks. Switch to Black & Blue (#021) on overcast days or in low-light conditions.
- Fish it slow — The Uni is not a reaction bait. Long pauses (5–10 seconds) between subtle shakes are where most strikes happen. Resist the urge to move it too much.
FAQ
Q: What makes the Yamamoto Uni different from other finesse baits?
A: The Uni's urchin-inspired design with multiple bulbed appendages creates a completely unique underwater profile and action. Unlike worms or creature baits, the appendages quiver and pulse with zero angler input — giving pressured fish something they've never seen before.
Q: What hook size works best for drop shotting the Uni?
A: A #1 or #2 Gamakatsu Octopus Hook or Owner Mosquito Hook nose-hooked through the central body works perfectly. Keep the hook light to allow maximum appendage movement.
Q: Why is the Uni sold 1 per pack instead of a multi-pack?
A: The Uni's complex design and premium Yamamoto material make it a specialty bait — it's built to last longer than standard soft plastics and is priced accordingly. Most anglers find a single Uni lasts multiple fishing sessions when rigged carefully.
The Izorline Rod Carrier Sling is quite possibly the most genius invention of all time! It functions as a basic hook and loop rod strap that secures the butts of your rods together and the tips of your rods together. Izorline then had the simple but genius idea of connecting those two straps with one line strap in the middle!
This allows you to sling your rods over your shoulder like a guitar. Keep those hands free so you can carry your fishing tackle.
