SPRO Swimbait 8"

The SPRO Swimbait 8" is one of the most productive, longest-lasting swimbaits on the market. Its action, color, and build quality set it apart from baits that look similar but don't hold up or swim the same once they hit the water.

Why a Straight Retrieve Leaves Bites on the Table

Big, wary fish often follow a swimbait without committing when it just swims in a straight line. Bill Siemantel's technique for this bait is a directional change: give it a quick jerk before starting your retrieve, then one or two more sharp jerks mid-cast and near the end. Each jerk snaps the bait a full 180 degrees, which is often exactly what turns a follow into a strike.

Built to Match the Forage

Available in floating, slow sinking, and fast fall models, you can match the bait's fall rate to the depth and mood of the fish, and the color range is built to mirror the natural forage most game fish key in on, from baitfish patterns to trout and carp profiles.

The Right Pick If...

You're targeting big largemouth bass, striper, or other large predators in waters where trophy-sized forage like trout or carp patrol, and you want a swimbait durable enough to fish hard, season after season.

Best Techniques and Conditions

Use the floating model for working over cover and shallow flats, and the slow sink model when you need to get the bait down to suspended or deeper-holding fish. Works best around structure and open water where big fish ambush large forage, and responds especially well to the jerk-and-pause directional change technique.

Tackle Express Tips

• Start every retrieve with a hard jerk before the bait moves, that initial directional change often triggers a reaction strike from fish that just watched it land.
• Use the Killer Carp pattern on waters with carp forage, and Silver Fish for more general baitfish-matching situations.
• If you need a smaller profile for the same technique, try the Spro BBZ-1 Jr. Swimbait.

FAQ

Should I choose the floater or the slow sink?
Pick the floater for working over cover and shallow flats, and the slow sink when you need the bait to reach suspended or deeper-holding fish.

What's the best way to work this bait?
Don't just cast and retrieve steadily. Jerk it hard before starting your retrieve, then add one or two more sharp jerks mid-cast to trigger directional changes that draw strikes.

Is this bait durable enough for repeated big-fish strikes?
Yes, it's built to hold up as one of the longest-lasting swimbaits in its class, season after season.
