Saltwater Trolling Lures

The Lead Masters Cedar Plug Daisy Chain takes everything that makes a single cedar plug deadly on the troll and multiplies it by four. Four cedar plugs running in a line create the unmistakable visual profile of a baitfish school in flight — each plug doing its own thing, wobbling and darting independently, exactly the way a real school of panicked bait behaves when a predator is pushing through it. When Tuna see this rig coming through the water, they don’t see a lure. They see dinner.

The chain is pre-rigged and ready to deploy: swivel, 80 lb line, 3× Size #4 cedar plugs in front, 1× Size #6 cedar plug at the rear, single hook on the trailing #6, and crimped connections throughout. The larger #6 plug trails at the rear of the chain — this is where the strike happens. Tuna attacking a fleeing bait school always target the last fish, and the trailing #6 with the hook is positioned exactly there. The three #4 plugs in front do the work of creating the school illusion and drawing the fish in; the #6 closes the deal.

Key Features

• 4-Plug Cedar Bait School — Amplified Cedar Action — A single cedar plug is one of the most proven tuna trolling lures ever made; four cedar plugs running in a line multiply that action into a full bait school presentation; each plug swims and wobbles independently, creating the erratic, multi-directional movement of a real bait school under predator pressure; the combined visual profile of four plugs is far more visible and compelling to Tuna than a single plug at the same trolling speed.
• Trailing #6 Hook Placement — Where the Strike Happens — Tuna and other large pelagics attacking a bait school consistently target the trailing fish — the one that appears to be falling behind the school and is most vulnerable; the single hook on the trailing #6 plug is positioned exactly where the strike will occur; the hookless #4 plugs in front create the school illusion and draw the fish in without the risk of foul-hooking on the teaser plugs.
• 80 lb Pre-Rigged with Crimped Connections — The chain is rigged on 80 lb line — appropriate for the large Tuna and Yellowtail that the Cedar Plug Daisy Chain is designed to target; all connections are crimped rather than knotted, providing maximum connection strength and eliminating the knot as the weakest point in the rig; the swivel at the head end prevents line twist during the troll.
• Natural Cedar Finish — Proven Offshore Color — The natural, unfinished cedar wood finish is the most versatile and proven color for offshore trolling; the natural cedar color and wood grain produce a subtle, realistic baitfish appearance that works in blue water, green water, and mixed conditions without the need for a painted finish.

How to Deploy

• Attach the swivel end to your leader or directly to the main line.
• Deploy in the prop wash or on the short corner of a standard trolling spread at 5–8 knots.
• The chain is most effective when running in the white water of the prop wash where the turbulence enhances each plug’s individual action.
• Can also be used as a hookless teaser by removing the hook from the trailing #6 to raise fish to the surface before switching to a rigged bait.

Best For

• Bluefin & Yellowfin Tuna — Primary Application — The Cedar Plug Daisy Chain is purpose-built for Tuna; troll at 5–8 knots in a standard spread; most effective when fish are actively feeding on baitfish schools near the surface; the four-plug bait school presentation triggers the same aggressive, committed strike response that a real bait school would from Tuna that are in feeding mode.
• Yellowtail — Effective for Yellowtail on the troll when fish are keying on mackerel and sardine schools; the cedar plug action and natural finish are proven Yellowtail triggers at standard trolling speeds.
• Running Between Spots — Deploy the Cedar Plug Daisy Chain while running between fishing spots; the rig is designed to fish effectively at trolling transit speeds and has produced strikes on fish encountered while running, turning what would otherwise be dead time into productive fishing time.
