Hookup Baits Medium Jigs are a 3" tube jig pre-rigged with a 1/8oz or 1/4oz jighead in a pack of three. The Hookup Baits have been proven to catch the hard to catch bass and trouts in the lake all the way to the SoCal finicky Bluefin on micro-bait.

There are many ways to fish the hookup bait but casting it out and letting it fall on a tight line will pendulum it down in an arc.  This can be very effective since it allows the bait to swim as it falls.  This is effective when fish are suspended in the column and not on the top or bottom.

If fish are on the bottom, we like to let it sink to the bottom and pop it off the bottom and then allowing it to sink back down.  Continue this retrieve all the way back to the boat or shore.

If they are in the upper part of the column, cast and start retrieving soon after the lure hits the surface.  Most of the time a slow and steady retrieve works best but you can also burn it on the surface for very active surface feeding fish.

The Salas 6X Jr Yo-Yo Iron Jigs is perfect when you're trying to mimic a mid-sized bait.  The smaller model of the regular Salas 6x, the Jr. is smaller and lighter which makes it fall slower through the water column.  It's also great if the fish aren't in deep water or they are feeding on smaller bait.  Both eyes are welded and it comes with a very strong 3X strong hook.  Sometimes the paint will get in the eye of the jig where the ring passes through.  We suggest that you clean out this eye to increase the action of the bait.  The hook should move freely and a small piece of single strand 30# AFW Toothproof wire 6" long attached to the front of the jig will cause a different action, try it out.  

You can cast the jig long distances or drop it straight under the boat.  We drop it down to the desired depth, usually the bottom, and retrieve it back as quickly as possible.  30-40lb line is best and a 7 foot rod 20-40lb line rating.

Salas 7X Jr Surface Iron Jigs are the same fish catching shape and action as the full sized 7X but in a bite size lure. Perfect when the fish are finicky or biting smaller bait.  Simply cast it, let it sink for a couple seconds, and retrieve at a moderate rate.  Too fast and it will wash out, too slow and it will have a lazy action.  You want to create a reaction in the fish, so make sure you fish it at the right speed.

The Salas 6X Yo-Yo Iron Jig is a yellowtail catching machine.  The shape and color of these heavy jigs creates the illusion of a fleeing baitfish from the depths.  It triggers a bite from a variety of species but yellowtail off the Southern California coast is the main reason we use these jigs.

Simply drop it down to the bottom or desired depth, put the reel in gear and bring it back at a fast but steady retrieve.  If they are there, they will eat it!

The lure may spin as it come up, that is ok and gets bit really well.  You are trying to get a reaction out of the fish and if it looks like it's going to get away, a yellowtail will hunt it down.  Hang on tight though, when they hit it they will hit it hard.  

The hook and rings are heavy enough for most yellowtail but you can also catch tuna on them.  Usually they like chrome or chrome blue, but they will eat other colors.  Barracuda and dorado will also bite any Salas Lure as long as it's moving fast.

The Salas 7X Light Surface Iron Jig is one of the most iconic surface irons in existence. It's easy to fish and like all Salas, it gets bit.  Cast it as far as you can, let it sink for a couple seconds, and then a nice steady retrieve back.  Not too slow and not too fast, just enough so that a methodical erratic action takes place.  

Salas is hand made in Southern California and has been proven time and time again.  Each one has superior paint jobs and a thick clear coat that will stand up over time but even if the paint comes off, they still get bit.  We've found they get bit even better when the paint has scratches and looks a little beat up.  Yellowtail have teeth and can be very aggressive, this over time will remove the paint and clear coat.  Many panga fisherman like to scrape them on the launch ramp to get some of the paint off.  

Try out different colors, fish will eat them all but sometimes they will bite one color more than another.  We generally like to fish darker colors in low light conditions and lighter colors when there is more sun.
