An increase in fishable boils are providing action thru the day with some of the best action being mid-day in the Ski Arm. There are still some big boils happening in the morning by the buoy line, mostly out of reach by the forebay dam. Espetit 95’s in the White Flash pattern and Lucky Craft Gunfish 100’s in any pattern with a white belly are producing fish in the five to seven pound range. 

Once the fish sink out to the twenty foot depth range the dropshot rig fished on main-lake points and steep rocks remained effective, producing some quality bites going into the weekend. Any of the C3 Baits or Bait Merchant finesse worms in the Neptune Shad pattern continue to produce throughout the day. Wacky rigged Senko’s and C3 Baits Slim Pro’s are also putting some nicer fish in the net. Definitly an uptick in fish size this week as the Fall pattern approaches.  

Triple digit air temps and falling water levels spurred a medium algae bloom that kept some of the surface action to a minimum mid-week, reducing what were good boils to simmers. There is still action to be had once the wind starts blowing, sometimes not til late morning. Small topwater baits like Bait Merchant custom Riser Bait 007’s, Megabass Karashi’s and smaller Zoom Flukes continue to dominate this bite. Dropshot rigs will provide action along steep walls and main-lake points in the twenty foot depth range once the surface bite subsides. 

Temps well above triple digits kept some of the surface action to a minimum this week, as most species kept their feeding to an hour or two with the 80+ degree surface temps. Small topwater baits like Bait Merchant custom Riser Bait 007’s, Megabass Karashi’s and tiny Zoom Flukes connected with good numbers of bass to three pounds. Casting into a splash circle within three seconds or so is a good way to rack up some better numbers as these are aggressive fish, usually feeding in small groups.

Megabass Karashi’s, small poppers, SPRO Phat Flys and tiny Zoom Flukes will work on this detailed bite. Don’t blind cast, just be ready to cast into a splash circle within three seconds or so and you’ll get bit almost every time. Once the surface bite dwindles, a dropshot rig fished along steep walls and main-lake points in the five to twenty foot depth range is hard to beat. Any of the C3 finesse baits or Bait Merchant Caligators are a good choice in just about any of the popular colors.

No blind casting, just waiting for the fish to show themselves, then casting into the splash circle within a few seconds. Once the surface bite subsides, switch over to a dropshot rig and fish along steep walls and main-lake points in the five to twenty five foot depth range. C3 Baits Shimmy’s and Bait Merchant Caligators continue to top the list of productive baits. Wacky rigged Senko’s and C3 Baits Slim Pro’s fished in the same areas are producing some quality fish to three pounds.  

Bass fishing slowed down slightly this week as far as the early surface bite was concerned. An algae bloom and water fluctuations probably accounted for most Bass feeding sub-surface for a few days. Dropshot rigs fished along steep walls and main-lake points in the five to twenty five foot depth range accounted for the most fish overall, with C3 Baits Shimmy’s and Bait Merchant Caligators topping the list of productive baits.

Surface boils in the Ski Arm around the island and up to the forebay buoy line have become more frequent, with big schools of six pound class fish slashing surface baits with aggression. Ghost Minnow pattern Lucky Craft Gunfish 100’s and Espetit 95’s in the White Flash pattern have been very productive.
