Castaic Lake Fishing Report – July 26, 2026 | Topwater Improving Daily & Striper Boils at Center Point

Castaic Lake is firing on all cylinders right now. Crystal clear water, no algae, full pool, and a bite that's progressing in the right direction across every species and technique. Guide Jim Taibi of 661Fishing.com was on the water this week with the full July 26th report. Here's where things stand.

🎣 Largemouth & Smallmouth Bass

The deep finesse bite remains the most consistent producer. Dropshot and Carolina rigs in the 20 to 30-foot zone on main lake and secondary points are still delivering numbers and size. The baits leading the way this week:

• C3 Baits Prototype 1 Worm — Cinnamon and watermelon colors producing alongside the established Purple Haze and Neptune Shad patterns
• C3 Baits Slim Pro — Cinnamon and watermelon both getting bit

The coves are coming alive. Shad are migrating into the bigger coves and bass are following — which means the topwater action is no longer just a teaser. It's improving every single day in the morning and evening hours. If you're not already working topwater during low-light windows in the coves, you're behind the curve.

The topwater bite is running smaller baits right now. Jim is specific about this: the Bait Merchant custom-painted 007 Riser Bait, MegaBass Karashi, and C3 Baits Flukenstein are getting more attention from fish than the larger topwater options. Downsize your topwater presentation this week and match the smaller shad profile the bass are keying on in the coves.

The 10-pound note: A ten-pound largemouth was recently caught at Castaic on a glidebait. That's not a random data point — it tells you there are significant fish in the system actively feeding, and that big profile presentations have a place in your rotation right now. If you've been grinding finesse all season, a glidebait tied on for the right conditions is worth serious consideration.

🐟 Striped Bass

The striper bite is getting more consistent and the fish are bigger. Boils are showing in the morning and mid-day around Center Point and the Elderberry buoy line — four to five pound average fish, and Jim says it's getting better daily. This is exactly the progression he called last week. Know where Center Point and the Elderberry buoy line are, be there in the mornings, and watch for surface activity.

The cut sardine bite by the buoy line is producing intermittently on mostly smaller fish — a viable option when the surface action goes quiet, but the topwater game is where the better fish are showing.
