Experience the bait that started a revolution in the fishing industry. The Basstrix Paddle Tail 2.5" is the original hollow-body swimbait, meticulously designed to provide a level of realism that solid-body plastics simply cannot replicate. At 2.5 inches, this bait is the perfect "match-the-hatch" size for a variety of forage, including threadfin shad, smelt, and small minnows, making it a staple for tournament anglers across the country.
The secret to its success lies in its hollow-body construction, which allows the bait to collapse easily upon a strike for superior hook-up ratios. The Swimbait Republic Glideway 126 Glide Bait is a premium downsized glide bait engineered for exceptional performance in a compact package. Measuring 126mm (approximately 5 inches / 4.9") and weighing 1 oz, this floating glide bait delivers the smooth, responsive action typically seen in much larger swimbaits—making it ideal for targeting bass, pike, musky, and other predatory fish when downsizing is key.
Out of the box, the Glideway 126 runs as a slow-floating bait, allowing versatile presentations from surface walks to depths of 10-12 feet with a variable sink rate. It features tunable weighting (includes sticker weights for slow-sink or ultra-slow-sink setups), letting anglers customize the fall rate and suspending behavior for precise control. The bait excels with a smooth, controlled S-swim glide, extreme responsiveness, electric reactive rhythm, and stable tracking on any retrieve speed—whether twitched aggressively or worked slowly.
Equipped with ultra-sharp BKK Super Strong treble hooks (typically size 4X) for reliable hooksets, and a replaceable soft silicone tail for durability and lifelike movement. Recommended gear includes 10lb braid with a 12lb fluorocarbon leader, a size 200-201 reel (any ratio), and a moderate-action rod rated around 1oz lure weight.

Why Buy the Yamamoto 5" Double Tail Hula Grub?
Few soft plastics have the tournament pedigree of the Yamamoto Double Tail Hula Grub. This 5-inch workhorse combines a Senko-style body, a pulsating skirt, and twin curly tails that thump and kick on every hop — mimicking crawfish, baitfish, and insects with a multi-action profile that triggers bass year-round. Salt-infused for natural feel and bite-holding power, it's a proven big-fish bait that belongs in every serious angler's box. 10 per pack.
Main Use & Benefit
A versatile 5-inch multi-action soft plastic grub designed to trigger strikes from largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass through a combination of body shimmy, skirt flutter, and twin curly tail kick — effective from shallow flats to deep offshore structure year-round.
Problem It Solves
Single-action baits only trigger fish one way. The Double Tail Hula Grub's three-part action — body wiggle, skirt pulse, and tail thump — creates a complex, lifelike profile that triggers reaction strikes and feeding responses simultaneously, making it effective across a wider range of conditions and retrieve styles than a standard grub or creature bait.
Advantages
- ✅ Three-part action: body shimmy + skirt flutter + twin tail kick
- ✅ Salt-infused formula — natural feel, controlled sink rate, fish hold on longer
- ✅ Extremely versatile — Carolina, Texas, shakey head, Ned, football jig, and trailer applications
- ✅ Proven tournament bait with decades of big-fish history
- ✅ 10 per pack — excellent value at $7.35
- ✅ 15 proven color patterns across all water clarities
- ⚠️ 5" profile is best for largemouth and bigger fish — downsize to the 4" or 2.5" for finesse or smallmouth applications
When to Choose It
Reach for the 5" Double Tail Hula Grub when you're fishing offshore structure, deep Carolina rigs, football jig trailers, or any situation where a bulkier, multi-action profile outperforms finesse baits. It's equally effective in shallow grass and around cover on a Texas rig. A year-round producer that shines in both clear and stained water.
Best Fishing Techniques
- Carolina Rig — the classic application; drag slowly across bottom transitions, points, and humps for maximum skirt and tail action
- Texas Rig — weedless presentation through grass, brush, and laydowns; hop and drag for crawfish imitation
- Football Jig Trailer — thread onto a football jig for a bulkier, more aggressive profile on hard bottom and rock
- Shakey Head / Ned Rig — stand-up presentation on hard bottom; subtle tail action on the shake triggers finicky fish
- Swimming / Swim Jig Trailer — trim the tails slightly and swim it as a trailer for a baitfish profile through open water and grass
Best Conditions
- Clear to stained water across all seasons
- Offshore structure: points, humps, ledges, and rock piles (15–40ft)
- Shallow grass and laydown cover on a Texas rig
- Post-spawn and summer when bass push to deeper structure
- Fall feeding patterns when bass are chasing baitfish

Tackle Express Tips
- Match the bottom — Green Pumpkin (#297, #301) and Cinnamon (#176, #221) are your best crawfish-imitating colors on natural bottom. Switch to Watermelon or Natural Shad when bass are keying on baitfish.
- Trim for a trailer — Cut the tails shorter when using as a football jig or swim jig trailer to reduce drag and tune the action to the retrieve speed you need.
- Slow down on the drag — On a Carolina rig, most strikes happen on the pause after a drag. Let the bait sit for 3–5 seconds before moving — the skirt and tails settle naturally and trigger reaction bites.
FAQ
Q: What's the difference between the 5", 4", and 2.5" Double Tail Hula Grub?
A: The 5" is your big-fish, offshore, and power-fishing option — best for largemouth on Carolina rigs and football jigs. The 4" is a great all-around size for both largemouth and smallmouth. The 2.5" is a finesse option for pressured fish, drop shots, and light jig heads.
Q: Can I use the Double Tail Hula Grub for smallmouth bass?
A: Yes — the 5" works well on smallmouth on Carolina rigs and football jigs over rock and gravel. For finesse smallmouth applications, consider the 4" or 2.5" size for a more subtle presentation.
Q: What jig head weight works best with the 5" Hula Grub?
A: For shakey head and Ned-style presentations, 3/16 to 1/4 oz works well in shallow to mid-depth water. For football jig applications in deeper water (20–40ft), 3/4 to 1 oz football heads are standard.
The Yamamoto 4" Double Tail Hula Grub is a middle size creature bait but still catches big largemouth bass. This simple bait is tailored for finesse fishing in pressured waters but is effective at caching bass in any water. When bass fishing gets tough, this plastic paired with a football jig head, can make the difference and catch you lots of bass.
This bite-sized grub combines a Senko-style body for subtle undulation, a free-flowing skirt for lifelike pulsation, and twin curly tails that thump and flutter to mimic small forage like baitfish or insects.
Infused with salt for buoyancy and natural sink rate, it excels in clear or stained water, drawing strikes from finicky bass, smallmouth, or panfish. Available in 8 proven colors, it's a go-to for light tackle setups, delivering unmatched action without added weight.
Key Features:
- Versatile Design: Skirt adds vibration and realism; double tails kick vigorously on retrieve or hop; salt-loaded for weightless rigging.
- Finesse Focus: Compact profile imitates small prey; stays on hooks well during slow drags or deadsticking.
- Durable Formula: Yamamoto's proprietary soft plastic resists tears; floats subtly for bottom-hugging presentations.
- Proven Performance: Wins tournaments on Ned rigs or shakey heads; ideal for rivers, ponds, or deep structure.
Why Buy the Yamamoto 2.5" Double Tail Hula Grub?
When bass are lock-jawed and nothing else is working, the 2.5" Double Tail Hula Grub is your secret weapon. This micro-sized evolution of Gary Yamamoto's iconic Hula Grub — a tournament staple since the 1980s — delivers the same proven three-part action (body shimmy, skirt flutter, twin tail kick) in a bite-sized profile that finicky bass, smallmouth, and panfish simply can't resist. 10 per pack at $6.43.
Main Use & Benefit
A 2.5-inch micro finesse soft plastic grub designed for ultra-light presentations targeting pressured bass, smallmouth, spotted bass, and panfish in clear water and tough conditions — effective on Ned rigs, drop shots, light jig heads, and shakey heads.
Problem It Solves
When the 4" and 5" Hula Grubs are too large for finicky fish, the 2.5" steps in with the same proven action in a profile that matches the smallest forage — perfect for post-frontal conditions, ultra-clear water, heavily pressured fisheries, and situations where downsizing is the only way to get bit.
Advantages
- ✅ Micro 2.5" profile — matches the smallest forage and triggers finicky fish
- ✅ Same three-part action as the larger sizes: body shimmy + skirt flutter + twin tail kick
- ✅ Salt-infused formula — natural feel, controlled sink rate, fish hold on longer
- ✅ Effective for bass, smallmouth, spotted bass, and panfish
- ✅ 8 proven color patterns — more color options than the 4" size
- ✅ 10 per pack at $6.43 — best value in the Hula Grub lineup
- ⚠️ Not a power fishing bait — designed exclusively for finesse and ultra-light presentations
When to Choose It
Reach for the 2.5" when bass are post-frontal and refusing larger baits, you're fishing ultra-clear water where big profiles spook fish, targeting smallmouth and spotted bass that prefer micro presentations, or fishing panfish and crappie on ultra-light tackle. It's the smallest tool in the Hula Grub lineup — and often the most effective when conditions get tough.
Best Fishing Techniques
- Ned Rig — thread onto a 1/16–3/16 oz Ned head for a stand-up presentation on hard bottom; the skirt and tails flutter naturally on the lightest shake
- Drop Shot — nose-hook on a #1 or #2 hook, 12–18" above a drop shot weight; hover and shake over structure for maximum skirt and tail action
- Shakey Head — slow drag on rock, gravel, and hard bottom; deadly on smallmouth in rivers and highland reservoirs
- Light Jig Head (1/16–1/8 oz) — swim or hop through open water and sparse cover for a baitfish or insect imitation
- Wacky Rig — hook through the body for a fluttering fall around docks and laydowns on ultra-light tackle
Best Conditions
- Ultra-clear water (visibility 3ft+) where larger profiles spook fish
- Post-frontal high pressure and slow-bite days
- Heavily pressured tournament lakes
- Smallmouth rivers, rocky highland reservoirs, and clear natural lakes
- Panfish and crappie on ultra-light tackle
Best For
| Technique | Species | Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| Ned Rig | All bass species, Panfish | Hard bottom, rock, finesse open water |
| Drop Shot | Smallmouth, Spotted Bass | Deep structure, clear water, post-frontal |

| Light Jig Head | Bass, Crappie, Panfish | Open water, sparse cover, baitfish imitation |
| Wacky Rig | Largemouth, Smallmouth | Docks, laydowns, ultra-light finesse |
Key Features

- Salt-infused Yamamoto formula — natural feel, controlled sink rate, fish hold on longer
- Versatile rigging — Ned, drop shot, shakey head, light jig head, and wacky rig

Tackle Express Tips
- Go ultra-light on the jig head — The 2.5" shines on 1/16 oz Ned heads in shallow water and 3/16 oz in deeper presentations. The lighter the head, the more the skirt and tails flutter on the fall.
- Blue Craw for stained water — Blue Craw / Green Pumpkin is a standout color in stained or tannic water. Baby Bass and Watermelon are your top picks in clear water conditions.
- Target panfish too — The 2.5" Hula Grub on a 1/16 oz jig head is a deadly crappie and bluegill bait. Don't overlook it as a multi-species finesse option when bass aren't cooperating.
FAQ
Q: How does the 2.5" compare to the 4" and 5" Double Tail Hula Grub?
A: The 2.5" is the micro finesse option — designed for ultra-light tackle, pressured fish, smallmouth, and panfish. The 4" is the all-around finesse size for bass, and the 5" is the big-fish, offshore power option. Use the 2.5" when downsizing is the only way to get bit.
Q: Can I use the 2.5" Hula Grub for crappie and panfish?
A: Absolutely — it's one of the best panfish baits in the Yamamoto lineup. Rig it on a 1/16 oz jig head and swim or hop it through brush piles, docks, and open water. Baby Bass and Smoke colors are especially effective for crappie.
Q: What hook size works best for drop shotting the 2.5" Hula Grub?
A: A #1 or #2 Gamakatsu Octopus Hook or Owner Mosquito Hook nose-hooked works perfectly. Keep the hook light to allow maximum skirt and tail movement on the shake.

Designed by Matt Allen and Tim Little of Tactical Bassin, the Hog Farmer Tactical Bassin Mini 5 Wire 4 Blade Rig is the first truly downsized 5 hook rig that Hog Farmer has ever produced! This rig is designed for the angler who appreciates high quality components and flexible wire in a compact package, but still wants to fish with 5 hooks.
The 5 Hook - 4 Blade Mini Rig produces a full-bodied shad ball profile that perfectly mimics a small school of baitfish trying to flee from predators. It utilizes thinner gauge .035” wire, which helps the baits and blades pulsate with short twitches of the reel handle or rod pumps to make the rig contract and expand just like a real school of shad. The impact-resistant polymer head, provides superior durability and features an embedded swiveling line tie to reduce line twists. Coupled with premium ball bearing swivels attached to super bright willow blades and 80lb snap swivels, this rig is ready to do battle with everything you can throw at it! Simply add your favorite jig heads and swimbaits and the Hog Farmer Baits Tactical Bassin 5 Hook - 4 Blade Mini Rig will come to life!
Features:
-5-wire with 80lb snap swivels
-4 willow blades
Karashi is Japanese mustard. Megabass named it for the kick — a small bait that does something sharp enough to break a fish out of a bad mood.
Short version: 2.3", 3/16 oz, slow-sinking, #10 trebles with a tinsel teaser on the rear hook. Built for BFS and light spinning gear, and for the days when everything bigger gets followed and refused.
Four Presentations, One Lure
The reason to own a Karashi is that it isn't one bait. Change what your rod tip does and you change what it is:
- Ultra-finesse i-motion. A super-slow retrieve produces a vulnerable, injured wobble. This is the one for lethargic, cold-front fish that won't chase anything.
- Sub-surface twitching. Sharp rod snaps make it dart and flash just under the film — the presentation that converts a follower into a biter.
- Surface dog-walking. Rhythmic twitches walk it on top. Pause, and because it's slow-sinking it settles and then rises like a panicked baitfish. That pause is where a lot of the bites happen.
- Bait-busting panic mode. Fast upward pops and a quick retrieve make it splash, leap and skitter — pure reaction, for aggressive fish.
Work through all four before deciding the bait isn't producing. Most anglers try one, get nothing, and put it away.
Slow-Sinking Is the Point
A floating bait sits on top and a sinking bait falls away. This one hangs — it descends slowly enough that you can fish the pause as a presentation rather than as dead time.
That's what makes the dog-walk different here: stop the retrieve and the bait doesn't just sit there waiting, it settles and rises. Count the pause out. Two seconds, then four, then six, until something answers.
The Detail Work
Megabass builds this with 3D scales, raised gill rakers, lateral line detail and their signature downward-facing eyes. On a 2.3" bait none of that is decoration — in the clear, pressured water this thing is designed for, a fish gets a long close look before it commits.
The rear treble carries a tinsel teaser, which adds flash and a little undulation at rest. It's part of the bait's action, not a garnish.
Karashi Finesse or Karashi 80?
Megabass's naming doesn't help here — one is a word, the other is a number. This is the smaller of the two.
| Karashi Finesse | Karashi 80 | |
|---|---|---|
| Length | 2.3" | The larger of the two |
| Weight | 3/16 oz | Heavier |
| Hooks | #10 trebles, tinsel teaser | — |
| Tackle | BFS and light spinning | Standard light casting or spinning |
| Take it when | Fish are pressured, water is clear, and small is the only thing they'll eat | You want a bigger silhouette, longer casts, and to call fish from further |
When It Beats a Jerkbait or a Spybait
- High-pressure lakes. Fish that have refused every jerkbait on the water haven't necessarily seen this action.
- Clear water, close inspection. The finish detail earns its money exactly where fish get a long look.
- Cold fronts and lethargic fish — the ultra-slow i-motion retrieve is a genuine dead-stick alternative.
- When you don't know what they want. Four presentations on one cast beats retying four times.
Fishing It Around Santa Clarita
This is the bait for late summer on a lake that's been hammered all season. We publish Castaic Lake fishing reports with current conditions — worth reading before you decide which presentation to lead with.
Recommended Gear
- Rod: BFS or light spinning, light power with a forgiving tip. #10 trebles pull out of fish on stiff blanks — this is not a bait for a heavy rod.
- Line: light braid to a fluorocarbon leader, or straight light fluoro for the sub-surface work.
- For the surface presentations, mono or a braid-to-mono leader floats and helps hold the nose up.
Pro Tips from the Tackle Express Crew
- Work the pause. On a slow-sinking bait the pause is the presentation, not the gap between them.
- Wait to feel weight on surface strikes. Setting on the splash pulls a 2.3" bait clean out of a fish's mouth.
- Change the retrieve before you change the lure. Four presentations means most "it isn't working" days are "I only tried one thing" days.
- Check the tinsel treble. It's part of the action. When it's matted or bent, the bait is a different lure.
Common Mistakes
- Fishing it on too stiff a rod. The most common reason anglers lose fish on small-treble Japanese baits.
- Treating the pause as dead time. It's slow-sinking for a reason.
- Only using one presentation. You bought four.
- Setting on sight. Wait for the weight.

Frequently Asked Questions
How big is it?
2.3 inches and 3/16 oz.
Does it float or sink?
Slow-sinking. On the pause it settles rather than staying on top, then rises when you start it again.
Karashi Finesse or Karashi 80?
This is the smaller one — for pressured fish, clear water, and BFS or light spinning gear. The 80 is the larger, for a bigger silhouette and longer casts.
What does "Karashi" mean?
Japanese mustard. Megabass named it for the kick.
What rod should I use?
BFS or light spinning with a forgiving tip. #10 trebles tear out of fish on stiff rods.
What's the tinsel on the back hook for?
Flash and a little movement at rest. It's part of the action — when it mats down or the hook bends, the bait behaves differently.
Which presentation should I start with?
Sub-surface twitching. If fish follow without committing, move to the dog-walk and then the panic retrieve.
Can I replace the tinsel treble?
Yes — Megabass makes an OEM tinsel treble specifically for this bait. Call the shop for availability.
