- Let it fall on a slack line. The swing head's advantage is the glide, and a tight line takes it away. Most bites on this head come on the drop.

Pro Tips
- Most of your bites come on the fall. Keep a slight bow in the line on the drop and watch where the line enters the water — you will see the bite before you feel it.
- Nose-hook it straight. If the bait sits crooked on the head, it will spin on the retrieve and kill the action. Lay the hook along the body before you thread it and mark where the point should exit.
- Slow down for white seabass. The retrieve that feels too slow is usually the right one, particularly during a squid spawn when fish are gorging and lazy.
Common Mistakes
- Using a hook that's too small. A bass-sized 4/0 leaves the point buried in an 8" body. Use 8/0.
- Over-weighting the head. Too much lead on shallow kelp drops the bait past the strike zone and flattens the glide. Start light and add weight only if you can't hold bottom.
- Retrieving too fast. This is a big, slow-moving profile. Burning it looks unnatural and pulls it away from structure-holding fish.
