Commercial Grade, Without Looking Like Work Gear

The XTRATUF Wheelhouse Ankle Deck Boot in Brown is the same commercial-grade boot as the black version — identical last, identical SRC-rated outsole, identical RDR® rubber — in a colorway that does not read industrial. If you split your time between working decks and fishing for yourself, or you just want a boot that looks right at the tackle shop and the fuel dock, brown is the pick.

Not sure whether you need the Wheelhouse or the standard Ankle Deck Boot? Our XTRATUF Boots Buyer's Guide spells out the difference.

Taller Than the Standard Ankle Deck Boot

Worth knowing before you order: XTRATUF lists the Wheelhouse at a 7 in full height, an inch taller than the 6 in Ankle Deck Boot. It is still an ankle-height boot, but that extra inch of shaft gives you more coverage against spray and deck wash on a long day.

What Commercial Grade Actually Means Here

Three concrete upgrades over the standard Ankle Deck Boot:

  • SRC-rated outsole. SRC is the highest European slip-resistance classification — tested on both steel and ceramic — and it is non-marking and oil-resistant. It holds on a diesel-slicked deck where a standard sole skates.
  • RDR® rubber. XTRATUF's compound outwears standard rubber in solvents, caustics, hydrocarbons, oils, fats and acids. Bait slurry and fuel spray do not soften it the way they do a recreational boot.
  • Reinforced upper and dual-density insole. The toe, heel and pull tabs are reinforced where boots fail first. The EVA/PU footbed runs built-in air channels to move heat and moisture out over a long shift.

Sizing: Order DOWN on Half Sizes

Read this before you add to cart. The Wheelhouse is built on a wider last than every other XTRATUF ankle boot, so XTRATUF recommends that half sizes order down a size. A 10.5 buys the 10. If you own the standard Ankle Deck Boot, do not order the same number — the Wheelhouse in that size will be loose in the heel.

The Right Pick If...

  • You work decks or crew long trips and need a boot that survives the season
  • You are on your feet 12+ hours and your feet swell by the end of the day
  • You have a wide foot and the standard Ankle Deck Boot pinches
  • You want commercial durability in a colorway that works off the boat
  • You are around fuel, oil, bait, or cleaning chemicals regularly

Tackle Express Tips

  • Size down before you size up. Almost every Wheelhouse fit complaint traces back to someone ordering their standard Ankle Deck Boot size. The wider last changes the math — half sizes go down.
  • Pull the footbed to dry. The dual-density insole is removable. After a long trip, pull both footbeds and air the shells separately — they dry far faster and the boot stays fresher.
  • Brown shows salt film more than black. A quick freshwater rinse and a wipe-down after each trip keeps the finish even. Skip it and you get a chalky haze that is hard to reverse.

FAQ

How tall is the Wheelhouse?
XTRATUF lists it at a 7 in full height — one inch taller than the 6 in Ankle Deck Boot. It is still an ankle-height deck boot, just with a bit more shaft coverage.

Do I order up or down in the Wheelhouse?
Down. The Wheelhouse is built on a slightly wider last, so XTRATUF recommends half sizes order down a size. This is the opposite of the standard Ankle Deck Boot and the 12 in Legacy, which both size up.

Is the brown any different from the black Wheelhouse?
No. Same last, same height, same SRC-rated outsole, same RDR® rubber, same reinforced upper and dual-density insole. The difference is the colorway and, at times, price and size availability.

Does the Wheelhouse have the XPRESSCOOL liner?
No. That is on the standard Ankle Deck Boot. The Wheelhouse uses a dual-density EVA/PU footbed with built-in ventilation channels.

Is the outsole safe on a fiberglass deck?
Yes. SRC-rated, non-marking and oil-resistant.
