The One That Still Looks New in October

Black is the practical pick in the XTRATUF Ankle Deck Boot lineup. Squid ink, bait slime, fish blood, and rail rust all show up on lighter colorways within a season — on black, they do not. Style #22736 is the same 6 in slip-on deck boot as the rest of the family, in the colorway that takes the most abuse and shows the least. It is also the one we stock in wide sizes.

New to XTRATUF? Read the XTRATUF Boots Buyer's Guide before you pick a model — Ankle Deck, Wheelhouse, and 12 in Legacy solve different problems.

Wide Sizes: The Real Reason to Buy Black

XTRATUF offers the Ankle Deck Boot in medium and wide widths, but availability by colorway is inconsistent. Black is where you will most reliably find a wide (EE) fit — we carry Size 10 W and Size 12 W alongside the standard run. If you have a wide foot, high instep, or you have tried an XTRATUF before and felt pinched across the ball of your foot, this is the colorway to buy.

Why the Ankle Deck Boot Works

Same slip-resistant, non-marking Chevron outsole as the XTRATUF Legacy boots, in a lightweight hand-layered rubber upper you can kick on and off. The XPRESSCOOL liner is an anti-microbial evaporative lining that regulates foot temperature — it works in both directions, so the boot is comfortable on a cold pre-dawn run and on a hot August afternoon. Front and rear pull-on tabs give you leverage over heavy socks.

This is an Explorer Grade boot built for sport and recreational anglers. For commercial shift work, go to the Wheelhouse.

Sizing: Order Up on Half Sizes

XTRATUF recommends that half sizes order up. A 10.5 buys the 11. If you are between sizes and we have your size in wide, the wide is usually the better call than jumping a full size — you keep the length and gain the volume.

The Right Pick If...

  • You need a wide fit and standard XTRATUF sizing has never worked for you
  • You fish bloody — tuna, yellowtail, squid — and want a boot that does not show it
  • You want a deck boot that also passes as normal footwear off the water
  • You need non-marking soles for a fiberglass deck
  • You are a recreational or sport angler, not a commercial deckhand

Gear That Goes With It

Tackle Express Tips

  • Black runs hotter in direct sun. The XPRESSCOOL liner handles most of it, but on a flat-calm August day a lighter colorway will be a few degrees cooler. If you fish mostly summer daytime, consider Gray Yellow.
  • Rinse after every saltwater trip. Salt works into the rubber and cracks it at the flex points. A 30-second hose-off roughly doubles boot life.
  • Never store them folded. Creased rubber weakens at the fold, and that is where these boots fail first. Store them upright, not under a pile of gear.

FAQ

Do these come in wide sizes?
Yes. Black is the colorway we most consistently stock in wide — currently Size 10 W and Size 12 W — alongside the standard medium run. Check the size selector for live availability.

Do XTRATUF Ankle Deck Boots run true to size?
True in whole sizes. Half sizes should order up per XTRATUF. This is the opposite of the Wheelhouse, which is built wider and sizes down.

Is the black colorway any different in construction?
No. Specs are identical across 22733, 22734, 22735 and 22736. The advantages of black are stain resistance and wide-size availability.

Are these commercial grade?
No. The Ankle Deck Boot is Explorer Grade, hand-layered rubber for sport and recreational use. For commercial shift work, see the Wheelhouse.
