The Original Sportboat Boot

Navy Red is the colorway that put the XTRATUF Ankle Deck Boot on the rail of every SoCal sportboat. If you have fished out of San Diego, Long Beach, or Oxnard, you have seen this boot — it is the one everybody recognizes. Style #22733 is a 6 in slip-on deck boot built for sport and recreational anglers who want the traction of a full commercial boot without the weight or the height.

Not sure which XTRATUF is right for you? Start with our XTRATUF Boots Buyer's Guide — it breaks down Ankle Deck Boot vs. Wheelhouse vs. 12 in Legacy in plain language.

Why the Ankle Deck Boot Works

XTRATUF built the Ankle Deck Boot for anglers who are on their feet all day but are not standing in a fish hold. It uses the same slip-resistant, non-marking Chevron outsole found on the Legacy boots, wrapped in a lightweight hand-layered rubber upper you can kick on and off at the dock. The XPRESSCOOL liner is an anti-microbial evaporative lining that pulls heat away from your foot — the difference between a comfortable overnight and a boot you want off by noon.

Front and rear pull-on tabs give you leverage getting in and out, even over heavy socks. The non-marking outsole means no black scuffs on a fiberglass deck, which matters if you are fishing off a friend's boat.

This is an Explorer Grade boot — hand-layered rubber, not commercial grade. If you are a deckhand pulling 12+ hour shifts, look at the Wheelhouse instead.

Sizing: Order Up on Half Sizes

The Ankle Deck Boot runs on a standard last and is offered in whole sizes only. XTRATUF recommends that half sizes order up. If you wear a 10.5, buy the 11. Do not size down — you will lose the ability to wear a thick sock, and thin socks in a rubber boot are how you get blisters on an overnight.

The Right Pick If...

  • You fish sportboats, six-packs, or your own center console and want slip-on-and-go
  • You need real traction on a wet, slimy deck without a 12 in boot cooking your legs
  • You want a non-marking sole that will not scuff someone else's gelcoat
  • You want the classic, instantly recognizable XTRATUF look
  • You are a recreational or sport angler, not a commercial deckhand

Gear That Goes With It

Tackle Express Tips

  • Rinse after every saltwater trip. Salt crystals work into the rubber and accelerate cracking at the flex points. Thirty seconds with a hose roughly doubles the life of the boot.
  • Never store them folded. Do not stack heavy gear on top of them or leave them creased in a hatch. The hand-layered rubber will weaken at the fold and that is where these boots fail first.
  • Wear a real sock. A midweight wool or synthetic sock manages moisture far better than cotton and takes up the slack if you sized up from a half size.

FAQ

Do XTRATUF Ankle Deck Boots run true to size?
They run true in whole sizes. If you wear a half size, XTRATUF recommends ordering up. Note this is the opposite of the Wheelhouse, which is built wider and sizes down.

Will these mark up a fiberglass deck?
No. The Chevron outsole is non-marking, which is why they are the default boot on charter and private sportboats.

Are these commercial grade?
No. The Ankle Deck Boot is Explorer Grade — hand-layered rubber built for sport and recreational use. For commercial work, step up to the Wheelhouse.

What is the difference between Navy Red and the other colorways?
Construction and specs are identical across 22733, 22734, 22735, and 22736. Choose on looks and availability — Navy Red is the original and most recognizable, Black hides stains best and offers wide sizes, Gray Yellow is easiest to spot in a dark boat, and Chocolate Tan reads least like a fishing boot off the water.
