A recent stocking has been great for shore anglers as the fish stay near the shore for a week or two. There are still a few fish roaming the East shoreline of the Ski Arm from the previous stocking that can be caught in water as shallow as two feet. They will hit just about any trout lure as well as dropshot finesse plastics while Bass fishing.

Some days are better than others for no obvious reason, with the mornings definitly seeing the majority of the action. A few bites were had on medium sized crankbaits in shad color hues and the occasional fish on an umbrella rig fished low and slow. Still awaiting another stocking. There have been a few incidental catches by Bass fishermen on finesse baits, mostly on the dropshot rig.

North winds kept the lake on a β€œcall before you go” basis all week. We’re still waiting on the second trout stocking of the year. The bite has slowed significantly as the numbers dwindle, but there are still a few out there to be caught. The Striped Bass fishing is better on the warmer days as they continue to school up on main-lake points.

Looking forward, the state should be stocking Trout as the water temp is now within their preferred range. Fortunately we have clear water this year compared to last year and the swimbait season for big Stripers is looking very promising. As soon as the water level stabilizes there should be an excellent cut bait bite for school-sized Striped Bass around the buoy line at the end of the Ski Arm.

Another series of Trout plants went in during the week but as of yet, the bigger fish are still hanging in the deeper water around the main basin/marina area. This is most likely due to the Trout seeking the cooler water as the surface is still hovering around fifty six degrees.

fter yet another Trout plant, the bigger fish are still in the deeper water around the main basin/marina area. The bite has yet to fully materialize but a few quality fish are being had on topwater baits like Lunker Punkers and Lucky Craft Sammy 128’s. 8β€³ Huddleston Trout and Deps glidebaits are also getting the attention of some quality fish.Β

Lucky Craft Gunfish and Sammy’s will get the bigger bites while small 2β€³ swimbaits and poppers are getting bit by the smaller schoolies. Adding a feathered treble hook to the surface baits will do double duty as the bigger bait appeals to the larger fish and the feathered treble is the size of the smaller Shad being hammered by the small Stripers.

Good Bass fishing continues here with most fish running in the one to four pound class. There is an afternoon reaction bite when the wind moves the Shad schools around. Small swimbaits and flukes are getting bit by some quality fish to four pounds. Otherwise, drop shot and Carolina rigs are producing in the ten to twenty foot zone on the outside of the weed line with the usual finesse plastics.Β

The bigger females are still on the break lines and dropoffs in the ten to twenty foot zone, mostly on rocky flats and secondary points leading into the backs of coves. Green Pumpkin Senkos, drop shots and Carolina rigs with just about any small finesse plastics have been effective. The upcoming full moon and some stable weather should help the overall bite improve in the coming days and weeks.

Bass are in different stages of the spawn with a few fish seen on beds, though most of the bigger females are still on the break lines and dropoffs in the ten to twenty foot zone. Rocky secondary points and transition areas leading into the backs of coves are holding lots of fish. Ten to twenty fish days are possible. Green Pumpkin and Watermelon 5β€³ Senkos, Carolina rigs with any of the Neptune Shad C3 Baits and dropshots with just about any finesse plastics have been effective.Β

Fish continue to move shallow and the bite has been good early in the morning for an hour or two. Once the sun gets on the water some wind definitly helps the action. The drop shot has been the best technique with the the more natural green and brown straight tail worms doing the most damage. keep a short drop on your weight, about four to six inches and drag it around the dropoffs in the ten to fifteen foot zone.
