Castaic Lake Fishing Report 01/05/25
Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
Decent weather and variable winds helped the bite this week on mostly smaller fish to two pounds. The most productive depth for me has been ten to thirty feet on main and secondary points. C3 Baits Shimmy’s in the Neptune Shad pattern fished on the Carolina rig and 4-1/2″ straight tail RoboWorms on the dropshot rig are getting most of the bites. Some days are better than others for no obvious reason, with the mornings definitly seeing the majority of the action. A few bites were had on medium sized crankbaits in shad color hues and the occasional fish on an umbrella rig fished low and slow.
Striped Bass:
Not much of a change this week as the fish remain spread out in deeper water from 40 to 100 feet around main lake cove mouths. There were a few caught on cut bait and jigging spoons, but there hasn’t been a steady bite as of yet on any technique.
Rainbow Trout:
Still awaiting another stocking. There have been a few incidental catches by Bass fishermen on finesse baits, mostly on the dropshot rig.

Lake Level: Down 35′ from full pool
