Castaic Lake Fishing Report 09/26/2021

Good to excellent bite on fish averaging two pounds. Fewer dinks in the mix this week. Wacky rigged Senko’s, dropshot rigs and light-line Carolina rigs are all getting bit. The topwater bite is ok with small walking baits, poppers and flukes the best bet. Netting Shad is very inconsistent, they are there one day and then gone for a week or more, but there is a developing algae bloom which could keep them shallow this Fall.

Largemouth Bass

Good to excellent bite on fish averaging two pounds. Fewer dinks in the mix this week. Wacky rigged Senko’s, dropshot rigs and light-line Carolina rigs are all getting bit. The topwater bite is ok with small walking baits, poppers and flukes the best bet. Netting Shad is very inconsistent, they are there one day and then gone for a week or more, but there is a developing algae bloom which could keep them shallow this Fall.

Striped Bass:

The overall bite remained slow this week with mostly small Stripers being caught. The area near the forebay seems to be holding the bulk of the fish as they have moved up into the current from the forebay water influx. The water is very dirty here making it tough on anglers. There is a lot of transition going on and things should start to stabilize in a week or two. Fingers crossed.

Castaic Afterbay:

Not much change here. The deep weed edge along the Eastern shore continues to hold the bulk of the Bass, although the inside weed edge is producing as well. Flukes fished on the inside grass line early in the day are producing quality bites while Carolina rigged finesse plastics are putting quality fish in the net as usual. There was a FOCL float tube derby on Saturday where a 10 pound Bass was caught.
