The Carolina Keeper might be the best thing ever invented.  It's a simple piece of hard plastic that has a small slit through the middle.  If you hold it in your pliers with the slit perpendicular to the pliers and squeeze it, the slit will open up enough so you can slip your fishing line into it.

• Use the right pliers for the size. Smaller Sizes 1–2 open with lighter-duty split ring pliers — using oversized pliers on small rings deforms the wire. Texas Tackle makes several sizes; match the plier to the ring.
• Orient the teardrop intentionally. When rigging, place your hook or swivel on the wide end of the ring. Your line knot naturally sits on the narrow end — that's by design, but it helps to consciously thread correctly the first time.
• Re-ring after any bent or deformed ring. A split ring that's been forced open too wide or bent under a big fish should be replaced even if it looks okay — the stress point is invisible and it will fail at the worst moment.

Q: What's the difference between Tear Drop and Hyper Wire split rings?
A: Hyper Wire rings are round and offer a wider size range (Size 1–11, up to 250 lb) — ideal when you need specific rated strength for a given application. Tear Drop rings are teardrop-shaped, which improves lure action and naturally seats the knot away from the gap. For most hard bait applications, the Tear Drop is the better upgrade; for pure strength or offshore rigging, the Hyper Wire range goes higher.

Q: Can I use these in saltwater?
A: Yes. The black chrome stainless finish holds up well in salt. Rinse your lures after each saltwater session to maximize the life of all hardware.

Q: Will these fit my existing lure hardware?

The Sea Striker Billfisher Double Sleeves are great for attaching lures and hooks to heavy line without knots.  If crimped correctly, a sleeved line is stronger than a knot and has 100 percent breaking strength.  

You will notice on the line sizes below that there is no 100lb crimp.  It's because of the way that the sleeves are manufactured and aren't made at the 100lb diameter.  It is better to go with a little bigger crimp than a little smaller crimp, but they both will work.  

Another option is to use an aluminum sleeve since it's softer and has a greater tolerance to differing line sizes.  The The Sea Striker Billfisher Double Sleeves shown here are made of brass and are able to create a connection with a smaller profile.  Aluminum sleeves are longer so it comes into more contact with the line.  In the end, it's just personal preference as to what kind of sleeve you use.
