Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
Good Bass fishing continues as most anglers are opting for the early morning and afternoon topwater bite that is starting to produce some bigger Bass. Flukes, Sammy’s, Riser Baits and poppers will get the attention of mostly Largemouth on secondary points and rocky areas. The bigger coves are starting to see increased action as the water cools, allowing the baitfish to move shallower in both arms of the lake. The dropshot bite is still producing mostly smaller fish and the majority of the Smallmouth catches. The usual finesse worms will all work in rocky areas in the five to twenty foot depth zone. C3 Baits Shimmys in the Neptune Shad color pattern continue to be the hot bait and are the staple for this lake.
Striped Bass:
Surface “boils” were all over the main lake with most of the schools still spread out in the Fish Arm and by the buoy line at the end of the Ski Arm. The boils aren’t lasting very long, twenty to thirty seconds at most and some boats are charging the schools making it difficult. Better to just sit in a good area and wait for them to pop up within casting range. Good topwater baits used again this week remain unchanged. The Lucky Craft Sammy 100 in Ghost Minnow or Aurora Black, Ghost C3 Baits Flukensteins, white Riser Baits and Z Man HellRaizers in the bone or shad pattern will all get bit with most fish averaging four pounds.
Bluegill:
Bluegills continue to bite red worms and meal worms in the shallow ends of coves like Utopia and Old SS around submerged brushpiles. Keep the bobbers, hooks and worms on the small size.
