Castaic Lake Fishing Report 12/22/24
Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:
The bite remains pretty tough on most days, however the recent string of warm weather and minimal wind has produced a decent bite on mostly smaller fish in two to twenty feet of water. C3 Baits Shimmy’s in the Neptune Shad pattern on a dropshot or light-line Carolina rig are still getting the majority of the bites. Secondary points near deep water have been the most productive areas as well as rocky stretches within the major coves. Both arms of the lake have catchable fish with the East side of the Ski Arm and the West side of the Fish Arm being best. Some fish are hitting medium sized crankbaits in Shad patterns.
Thanks to John and Andrew from C3 Baits for their help with this week’s report!
Striped Bass:
Not much of a change as the bulk of the fish remain spread out in deeper water from 40 to 100 feet. Jigging spoons and ice jigs are getting some love but the bite requires a lot of patience and sonar skill. Better days ahead!
Rainbow Trout:
The only plant so far this season is pretty much gone from the West ramp area, either being caught out or having moved on to deeper water. There have been a few caught by Bass fishermen on finesse baits, mostly on the dropshot rig, but these are incidental catches and almost impossible to target.
