Castaic Lake Fishing Report 10/20/24

Castaic Lake Fishing Report 10/20/24

There is a good dropshot bite as well with any of the C3 Baits bringing some nice Bass to the net. Neptune Shad is the dominant color as usual. Although water is coming in from the forebay, it seems that the level keeps dropping, repositioning the bait and the Bass. Warmer air temps and favorable winds should help steady the action in the next week or two.

Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass:

Colder nights and some bad wind affected the bite mid-week going into the weekend, especially the topwater action. There is a good amount of fish in the first five feet from the surface and they are still hitting Riser Baits and small Lucky Craft Sammy’s. We have been focused more on the afternoon than the early morning, especially when the wind shifts from North to South or Southwest. The bigger coves still have a lot of Shad and minnows and the fish are slowing making their way to the backs of the coves. Striped Bass:

Surface boils are still available although it takes a lot of patience to sit and wait. The middle of the Ski Arm and the buoy line at the end of the Ski Arm remain the focus of the boil chasers. The usual lures that have been working all season are still in play, Lucky Craft Sammy’s, Espetit 95’s and 007 size Riser Baits in any of the Shad patterns will all get bit. Trolling is slowly becoming fruitful but you will have to cover a lot of water to find the schools. Umbrella rigs, KastMasters and Yak flies stripped on three to four colors of lead core will put you in the hunt.
